1. So terrible. I knew a kid who came really close to dying after
being hit in the head with a pitched baseball, and this was little league. Tough stuff to hear.

2. Oh gawd. This scares the hell out of me.
My son plays in the Little League majors.

I can't imagine what this family is going through. :(

3. For the most part, if they are wearing their helmets, they should be ok.

For the most part. Freaky things can happen.

4. Yep ...It's very unlikely, but those "what if" kinds of thoughts make parenthood terrifying
sometimes :(

6. Agreed. We don't teach our kids morals and we can't tell others about morals or we'll get sued
You know, it's none of our business what kids to and the other gibber...

Meh.

7. Yeah, it is easy to freak out.
I catch myself being ridiculously paranoid at times (saw what my mom went through when my brother died). But I am somehow able to bring myself back down. Being overly cautious can be a bad thing sometimes. Kids will be kids. They have to be able to have their fun. We just have to hope that everything will be ok.

8. That's a good attitude.
I work on giving my kids some freedom -- they need it and we can't be too smothering. ... P.S. Bella has a good mom.

5. Fuck. Was I ever lucky when that happened to me in little league...
Stopped going after that. Dunno what happened to the vermin that threw it - hit me square in the back of the head.

Mind you, this wasn't during a game - somebody (and I remember who it was) was being quite an ass...

10. Every time I read about someone getting hit in the head by a pitch,

I have a flashback to Sports Illustrated after Tony Conigliaro was hit. The picture of his face was awful. It still gives me the creeps and this is a brazillion years later.

11. Baseball is still incredibly safe...
To go with improved helmets, they even sell something called a "heart guard"

I have only been hit by pitches a million times (catcher). What I hated was when batters clobbered me with their followthrough swing, that was the only time that I was knocked out
