Wish me luck; it's Moment of Truth time
Can I drive a truck? Tomorrow we find out.

Tonight I sit in Dayton, Ohio. Tomorrow morning I must get in an 18-wheeler truck (with a trailer seven feet longer than any I've ever driven before--a 53-foot trailer which is the standard of my company) and do these maneuvers:

90 degree back
45 degree back
Stop with front bumper over a line
Stop with back bumper over a line
Cross scale, stopping at three points--front wheels on scale line, line in space between drive axles, line in space between trailer axles
Turn a corner in the truck, straighten it out and pass the wheels of the trailer no more than six inches from a line

This one's for all the marbles: If I pass this test I get to drive for this company; if I do not I must go to a different company.

I can do it. But wish me luck anyway.

3. Don't overthink it.
You already know what to do, and how to do it.

Best of luck.

Bobtailing to Columbus in the morning, myself. Picking up a 53' 102" reefer unit I bought on Friday.

5. Just trust your instincts -
I bet you know how to do all of this, so just relax and do it. You'll be fine.

Come back and tell us how well you did. And, in the meantime, I'm sending you EVERY good wish for your success.

Just do it, kid .......................

9. Heh, some may be looking at that song with multiple interpretations.
Edited on Mon Apr-27-09 09:54 PM by RandomThoughts
Not meaning to get to much off on a tangent from the original OP, but sometimes people interpret things in crazy ways, So bears in that song to me, are not officials, but mean spirited bullies, and the toll is one that was already paid for us, and has nothing to do with taxes or anything. And is part of avoiding the deceit of making deals.

spooky song here, I don't think I agree with it, because the ferryman in that song is not driving my boat, but the costumes make for some humor. And I do not respect the ferrymen in original Greek myth. And the convoys I think on are going the other way, the idea of love, freedom, and peace.

In my own world of interpretation, I think the best line from convoy was Chris Christopherson when he was called the leader. He said "I am not leading, I am just in front", showing how people thinking the same, form the same directions. And in my thoughts a tribute to the humility of spirit in people like Johnny Cash.

and dynamite is not real, it is "boom goes the dynamite" from that sports caster, or "Dynnnaaaammite" from an old 70's show, no violence or bad things in my view.

Edit:A song I do like from Chris De Burgh.

Just trying reverse psychology. Good luck! My dad drove a truck. It's not a skill I underestimate.
