2. Do you like sesame?
It's very rich, so you don't want a lot at one time. But really good Halvah will just melt in the mouth.

3. Is that one of those cheeses that smells like feet
but tastes good if you can get past the smell?

I've never tried one of those...

4. It's more like a dessert, or a treat.

It's sweet sesame paste, almost. There's nothing else really quite like it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halva

Halawa (or halva, halvah, halava, helva, halwa, ħelwa) from the Arabic root حلوى ḥalwā (sweet), refers to many types of sweet confection, across the Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia, the Balkans, and the Jewish World. Halva based on semolina is popular in Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Somalia, India, and Afghanistan. Another common type, based on tahini (sesame paste), is popular in the eastern Mediterranean and Balkan regions, in countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Montenegro (тах'ан халв'а), Bulgaria, Russia, Greece and Cyprus (χαλβάς), Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, the Republic of Macedonia, Albania, Syria, Central Asia, Caucasus region and Turkey. It is also popular on the central Mediterranean islands of Malta. Tirunelveli a city in Tamilnadu state of India is called Halwa City. Halva may also be made from other ingredients, including sunflower seeds, various nuts, beans, lentils, and vegetables such as carrots, pumpkins, yams, and squashes.<1>

7. It's grainier and tastes like sweet sesame.
Some do have chocolate swirls inside and some have chocolate coating outside. Delicious!

9. I love Middle Eastern food and always think about buying it when we are at
a restaurant, but then I never do!

I love all the Middle Eastern pastries, though, esp. the coconut and honey ones!

One of my favorite things - when we visit my brother's city, we bring home a pound of homemade halavah - with pistachios.
They also make baklava and hommus.

13. Halvah is good
but Turkish Delight is fantastic - especially the pistachio or walnut kinds.
