Rollerblading - just started - when do the blisters go away?
I picked up blades this weekend, and love it. HOWEVER, I get huge SUV-sized blisters on my inner arch every time I go. Today it was excruciating.

I don't remember getting these with ice skating - although its been a while since I have skated. I don't remember getting these when I skied.

1. I don't ever remember getting blisters there - are your skates too wide
for your foot?

You could try lacing them a little tighter in the middle, or wearing a thicker sock. The last skates I had used a velco strap that went all around the outside of the skate, and really held the middle of my foot in place. You could also put a swath of duck tape over the affected area next time you skate (after it heals). I do that backpacking, and it works pretty well...

2. I picked up thicker socks - they are a size 12
I am usually an 11 1/2, but Rollerblades run big - so I went with a 12

3. I always got them. They stopped when I stopped roller skating.
Strangely though, I've played hockey all my life until the last 5 years or so and never got a single blister from the ice skates. My roller skates were a different story. And they were both hockey boots..one just had wheels instead of blades.

4. Fuck. I'm going to have to use sandpaper on my feet now aren't I?
Just like the Muay Thai trainings...

5. I got blisters too at first,

...and it took me a while to figure out that I had the blades laced too tightly. Once I loosened the boots up (not loose, mind, but not too snug either) I never got a blister again, even after hours of blading, regardless of how thick my socks were (or weren't).

YMMV. Good luck.

6. I'll try that because my response has been to tighten up the boots more and more

7. Yep that was exactly what I did at first too, tighten the boots even more.

I loved rollerblading so much I decided that I would just have to deal with the blisters and Band-Aids. So glad I finally figured out what to do!

Let me know how loosening the boots works out for you.

Good luck!

8. I have about 7 pairs of sandals that I have to break in every spring. Wish me luck. I end
up with blisters everywhere on my feet.

9. I've been roller blading for years, and never had a problem
Check the fit of your boot. You could also try the double sock thing hikers use. You have a thin inner pair of a slippery material and a think outer pair. You can find these socks in an outdoor supply store.
