GM is going to drop Pontiac? Huh?
They continue to make stupid moves. They're counting on Buick because it does well in China? Until next year when 'china duplicates all three of the Buick models.
and dumping Saturn? The only brand import-buying Americans will consider? Just too dumb to believe.

1. yep
my grand am (2005 3.4) is rock solid. My wife looks for excuses to drive it because it is just fun to drive.

All I've done is a K&M air and a VERY limited dial tuner and the car is a ball to drive.

I could drive back to Detroit (lived there for 22 years) and kick the shit out of whoever decided this.

2. How is it stupid?
Pontiac has little market share and little, if any products. All of its product line is badge-engineered from other GM vehicles. Keeping dead brands around just saps marketing $ from those that could be viable. Same with Saturn - reselling re-labeled Opels isn't working out, and GM can't afford to try again with 'em. This is the true tragedy, since in the early days of Saturn they had customer satisfaction second only to Lexus. Naturally, the rest of GM needed to put Saturn in its place so the division was starved of new products for years, and now it will be killed off.

3. Yeah, they got two decent cars and one is a Toyota...
For years the idea of Pontiac as the "performance" line kind of worked, but it got old after a while.

Saturn and Opel really hurt, though. My rebadged Opel was a great car at a great price-- it started out as a Saab, too. It was a while ago that I saw the handwriting on the wall, though, when they starved Saturn or development, thinking it was cheaper to just rebadge. There were power shifts going on at GM, and the Saturn boosters lost out. They talk all the time about killing off the 'Vette, too, but that one nobody has to guts to order killed.

(There was that same mindset that said people weren't going to notice the Cadillac Cimmarron was a cheap Chevy econobox.)

4. There goes my dream car.
One day, I wanted to get a newer Pontiac Grand Prix one day and paint it the same neon powder blue as our old 1978 Grand Prix.

5. Yeah, I was looking at Pontiacs for a future purchase - to replace my old
Olds Touring Sedan that got sold when I retired. It was the nicest road car I ever had.
I'm nearly 62, too old for a Chevy, too young for a Buick and too poor for a Caddy.

I was just starting to like the Saturns as well....

Maybe another VW...a Jetta!

6. I cannot believe that they are dumping Saturn...
that is crazy.

If I was running the company, Buick would be history.

8. Could save costs by rebranding Saturn as Opel...
and importing them from Europe.
