Has anybody here ever exterminated their house because of spiders?
I've never had to do that before, but just in the last 4-5 days, I've killed at least 30. Yes - THIRTY.

And they're not teensy-weensy, either. Their legs make them about the size of a quarter in diameter. :scared:

My final straw was when I found one in the shower with me. They're pushing me too far. I want to declare war. :nuke:

5. My husband is fascinated by the damn things
He has a bunch of pet spiders in the bathroom and will call me in there to see what amazing things they've done now. :eyes:

He won't let me vacuum them up or even put them outside - no, they must stay in the bathroom and make baby spiders.

I think I liked it better when he was afraid of the damn things. Then, he only woke me up in the middle of the night to squish them. :banghead:

I didn't have Windex in the shower with me, so as soon as I got done screaming - and no doubt, no less than 50 farm workers heard me - I grabbed the shower massager and shot it at him, screaming the entire time he was following the current and into the drain.

My heart can't handle this a 2nd time.

50. I live on 30+ acres in the desert
Mice, kangaroo rats, rats, lizards, scorpions, you name it! My cat takes care of any mice that get in the house but I do get the house sprayed for ants. Every year I had an ant invasion and I got sick of storing everything in my fridge and finding them all over the place, so I get the place sprayed. Three years now and no ants in my house.

Mainly to get rid of fleas. We found a ton of dead spiders as well. I'm not sure if they still sell those things but they were quite effective.

21. My friends had to use the bomb to rid their house of sand fleas.
Worked like a charm - then again, they have a TINY house. Not a lot of rooms.

Thanks for the input, though - I'll see if I can find a DIY instructional online.

If you go the extermination route, avoid pesticides. You don't want that stuff in your house, near it or near your kids.

40. I'd trade - my cat led a spider into the house last night.
The cat even lingered in the doorway to let the spider get all the way in. If he sees a spider in the house, he watches it go by. I think he considers them his pets.

Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 03:28 PM by fizzgig
this weird species of spider (larger than a quarter in diameter with a weird opaque white/red/purple body) infested my couch at my old house. we kept the couch when i moved, but we put it in the garage and i think the cold killed all of them because i haven't seen one since.

i'm the designated spider catcher in my house and i trap them in a jar or glass and put them outside because they are useful little buggers to keep around. my fiance - a big, fairly burly, manly kind of man - is terrified of them. he squeals when he sees one and once called me from the other side of the house to get a little spider off the hallway wall so he could get to the bathroom

51. I rescued a spider from my neighbor's bathroom yesterday...
...and set it free in my flowerbed. It was a pretty little wolf spider, perfectly harmless. My neighbor was so freaked out by it that she wouldn't even go into the room until I'd removed it. I have a hard time understanding fear of spiders. So ... I guess the answer to your question would be "no." :)

If I did have an epidemic of them like you seem to have, though, I'd probably set a few house geckos loose to eat them. No sense poisoning the inside of your home.
