1. The state of illiteracy in dogs these days is disgraceful
Back in my day, dogs were extremely well-read. You could discuss War and Peace with the neighborhood Lab, explore the deeper meanings of For Whom the Bell Tolls with Mr. Perkins' Beagle, and thrill to the excitement of Voyage To the Bottom of the Sea with the beat cop's German Shepherd.

Oh, for the good old days....

2. Modern dogs are badly in need of confusing
But I'm afraid I'm not personally qualified. :(

5. My beagle doesn't care for Hemingway, but get her started on Mark Twain,
and you can't get her to shut up. And leave it to a beagle to consider _A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court_ Twain's best work. :eyes:

6. It's nice to hear of a dog with literary opinions at any rate
I could never get my Boxers to do more than look at comic books.

3. My daughter used to do that... before she could even read.
I'd read to her, so she'd pretend to read to the dog. It was one of the most adorable things I've ever witnessed.

*sigh*

I so miss that dog. :(

4. The beagle and I do that once a month.
She and I go to the afterschool program in our local public housing "project", and she sits next to a kid while the child reads to her. Our local kennel club organized this. I'm a member of the kennel club, but can never go to meetings, because it's the same time as choir rehearsal. So, we do this as our required activity. The beagle enjoys it. She loves kids, and I take some treats for the kids to give her when they finish. So, it's win-win.

12. Our local library has a "read to the service dogs" program
K has participated in it

:loveya:

The children's librarian gets out all the good "dog" books and the children choose which one they want to read to the dogs.
