Apparently, census takers are going to "paint" everyones front door for its GPS location. If you have a pocket Constitution, a Bible or guns then, um, this is bad I guess.

Are they worried the government will know where they live?

Because they already do, you know.

Um...the government ALREADY finds my house every weekday plus Saturdays. And they...they LEAVE STUFF in a black box at the end of my driveway! It's a horrible conspiracy!

Granted, the conspiracy threads over there are really bizarre, because it's usually all about :evilgrin:SATAN:evilgrin:, or who they think is working for :evilgrin:SATAN:evilgrin:

But then, so are most of their non-conspiracy threads. If Jesus ever reads Rapture Ready, I'll bet it really creeps Him out.

Edited on Thu Apr-30-09 02:35 PM by old mark
I mean, if your address is down on someone's paper list, what is the advantage of having it on a GPS - you already have it, no? And if you actually have to go there to addit to a GPS, well, you already know where it is?
Is this some idiot's nightmare, like my computer thinking it's 1909?

Am I missing something fundamental or are they pretty stupid?

41. It helps for routing things like emergency services (e.g. fire trucks)
Street addresses aren't necessarily evenly distributed along a street, so on a long street the precise location of a given address could be pretty vague (especially in rural areas)...

Maybe street signs confuse the rapture ready types, in the real world there's already an easy way for the government to find where you live. It's called YOUR ADDRESS (idiots). Knowing the latitude and longitude of your porch is going to make this easier for them how?

If the fools on that thread would just think for *one* minute, their lives would be so much better.

31. Um, as someone who works for the gov't...
and regularly tries to reconcile addresses and GPS coordinates, using Mapquest, Google Earth, MSNLive, and anything else we can think of, to properly locate the address, this is dumber than shit. While we can figure out most of them, we regularly have to get off our asses, leave our cubicle, and go drive out there and "ground truth" the data. As has already been pointed out, many local, state, and federal agencies already know where the fuck you live, and the next time your house catches on fire, you will be glad they did. (Hopefully!)

We've got GPS units and we ARE taking points at everyone's front door.

And everyone in the census class thinks it's creepy, too.

Especially creepy is the fact that your assigned GPS unit can't be turned off, so if you work for them, they know where you are. :tinfoilhat:

Census Bureau Adopts GPS to Find American Homes
by Dan Charles
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5590541

Census Workers to Verify Addresses in the U.S.
First Major 2010 Census Operation to Employ 140,000

The Census Bureau will launch a massive operation on March 30 to verify and update more than 145 million addresses as it prepares to conduct the 2010 Census.

Nationwide, more than 140,000 census workers will participate in the address canvassing operation, a critically important first step in assuring that every housing unit receives a census questionnaire in March 2010. All information is kept confidential. The countdown to the 2010 Census is officially one year out on April 1.

“A complete and accurate address list is the cornerstone of a successful census,” said Tom Mesenbourg, acting director of the U.S. Census Bureau. “Building on the achievements of the 2000 Census, we have been testing and preparing for the 2010 count all decade, and we’re ready to fulfill our constitutional mandate to count everyone living in the United States.”

Chill. Most of the responders to the post were saying the same thing, and that was on a website dedicated to conspiracy theories.
