My piano teacher handed me a bottle of Purell before I touched her keyboard.
Asked me to sanitize my hands before playing. This seemed reasonable to me, so I took it, put a little in my hands and handed it back to her. Then, as I was applying it, she told me two parents were offended by her doing this, and she may lose those two students. I think there is some panic going on, but until we know better, I don't have a problem with taking a simple precaution like this. I'm amazed at what pisses people off. She could've followed the lead of several schools in the Chicago area, and canceled lessons altogether.

Sheesh!

1. She should remind those parents that being cautious protects their kids, too.
Oh, and she should keep it up post-panic. Who knows what the little nosepickers have on their hands.

2. Exactly. I told her that the beagle's recent experience with Kennel Cough
has taught me an important lesson about the ease with which germs can travel--and the damage they can do. Those parents should be thanking her...and you're right--she should continue this practice ad infinitum.

3. Yeah, they don't know whose hands have been on that keyboard.
Or where those hands have been.

Well, I guess saying that probably wouldn't be good for the piano-teaching business.
