Post an innocent word that sounds dirty
For extra points, use it in a sentence.

Example: Dewlap

Example: Anole

Sentence: The anole's dewlap was so big it nearly flapped in the breeze.

...and "6 inches". It's amazing to me many things seem to be "about 6 inches", and mention of that seems to always demand the obligatory and tedious attempt at humor. "Can't get it in" also guarantees hilarity. Some people just never tire of some jokes.

19. Tragic loss, that name.
Before I first heard Carl Sagan put the emphasis on the first syllable, the "humorous" take on the old pronunciation never occurred to me. I was devastated by that bit of knowledge. Uranus, pronounced the "old" way, always sounded so beautiful, feminine, and exotic to me.

Now it's gone, forever. Now it's just "your asshole" in bright blinking neon lights. Too bad. :(

28. Yes, it is too bad.
In my family, we now call it Ouranos. The Greek pronunciation of Ouranos is oo as in book rah as in rather NOSS as in loss (oo-rah-NOSS). Emphasis is on the last syllable.

Uranus is merely the Latinized form of Ouranos (which is Greek for "sky"), so we feel completely justified in calling it by its real name. :-)

36. reminds me of this story
As director of communications I was asked to prepare a memo reviewing our company's training programs and materials. In the body of the memo one of the sentences mentioned the "pedagogical approach" used by one of the training manuals. The day after I routed the memo to the executive committee, I was called into the HR director's office and told that the executive vice president wanted me out of the building by lunch. When I asked why, I was told that she wouldn't stand for "perverts" working in her company. Finally he showed me her copy of the memo, with her demand that I be fired, and the word "pedagogical" circled in red.

The HR manager was fairly reasonable and once he looked the word up in his dictionary, and made a copy of the definition to send back to her, he told me not to worry. He would take care of it.

Two days later a memo to the entire staff came out, directing us that no words which could not be found in the local Sunday newspaper could be used in company memos. A month later, I resigned. In accordance with company policy, I created my resignation memo by pasting words together from the Sunday paper.
