I'm officially changing my mind about Ben Affleck
I've always thought of him as a lightweight actor (entertaining still, oddly enough) but I saw State of Play last night and he was very good indeed. Recommended!

1. He has his moments! I used to be infatuated with him after Good Will Hunting.

Then he got kinda shitty. But I like him again. And I like Matt Damon too.

Also, he did a fine job directing in Gone Baby Gone.

2. My dear Skittles!
That's just coming out, isn't it?

Isn't it the one with Helen Mirren? Yeah, I just looked it up...yup. I want to see this one! The reviews are good, and the story looks fascinating!

3. Hmmm...I'm still skeptical.
The difference between Affleck and Damon after Good Will Hunting was that Affleck wanted to be a star and Damon wanted to be an actor.

I still want to see State of Play though. Others have said it's good, too.

6. Good flick
I'll probably catch hell for this, but I have always liked Russell Crowe - ever since "L.A. Confidential". He was solid in "State of Play".

7. Russell Crowe is a good actor, IMO.
He may be an ass, but still a good actor.

I thought he was great in a few movies.

14. He really is. His personal issues sometimes get in the way.
But I saw him first in The Insider, and then saw him in Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind. Just shows his range.

26. Take it from someone who knows the business
Edited on Sat May-02-09 12:47 PM by Zomby Woof
Crowe is no better or worse than 99% of the neurotic misfits who occupy the business. The phone-throwing incident aside (and I won't judge because I wasn't there), he is still probably far more together than the vast majority of his colleagues. The real reason he gets negative publicity more than not is because he doesn't play the game. Hollywood is more political than Washington D.C., and I don't mean that ideologically.

He has achieved a level of success that allows him to not play the game. He'll have job security as long as he remains popular and most important of all - his movies make $$$.

12. Russell Crowe is awesome
in real life he seems like a bit of an ass (although perhaps marriage and fatherhood may have mellowed him somewhat) but he has always been an awesome actor!

15. He was great in Hollywoodland.
I kind of think that the performance was Oscar nom worthy.

23. I do too. I think the J-Lo phase really hurt him.
And Pearl Harbor. Yuck.

But I'm willing to give him a pass because he is a huge flaming liberal. :)

25. That was the turning point movie for me - I thought he was first rate.
Good Will Hunting was good, but he outdid himself in Hollywoodland.

18. So what do you think?
There are rumors out there that Ben has a rug. Supposedly he was horsing around at a party in Hollywood, and it flew right off of his head!

So, does he or doesn't he?
