So will Star Wars ever spawn a religion?
Seriously - say, 1000 years from now. The American Empire is long gone, literacy is at an all time low, some serf finds a DVD of the whole series, and freaks out and - dayum - The First Church of Jedi.

Whaddya think?

I'm watching my 5 yo play the Lego Star Wars series and that comes to mind every so often....

3. The U.K. already recognizes Jedi as a religion.
It registered high enough on the census that by law they had to. Of course they fought it in court, but the law was clear on the matter.

When then coppers are on your side, you're going to get over no matter what.

5. I wonder how Jedism willbe bastardized 2000 years from now.
If they don't have real light sabers by then it will be the lamest religion ever hatched.

7. Yes. It's called Taoism.
Much of the Jedi philosophy is based on Taoist philosophy, with a dash of Buddhism thrown in for good measure.

9. Yes. Single 16 year old boys are in this religion. They "worship" every day too.
Every morning, they go into the sacred room and hold their "light saber" over the bowl of life... a few swings later, and they're cleansed for the day...

10. The concept of the force is based on Buddhism, so I imagine it will spawn a continuation
of Eastern philosophy.

15. Why? There's nothing spiritual about The Force.
Haven't you ever heard of midichlorians?
