We built our raised organic vegetable bed this past weekend.
Edited on Tue May-12-09 10:09 PM by RiffRandell
Tomatoes, red and green peppers, cukes, radishes, carrots and bush beans. We planted potatoes and strawberries in pots. I'm so excited, I hope it does well. I wish we had done spinach and broccoli, but we should have started them earlier.

We also added another butterfly bush and some lantana in our yard.

Oh yeah, I forgot about our lemon tree---I planted it in a pot so we can bring in during the cold months---right now the lemons look like limes (still green) and it's got pretty pink flowers blooming.

3. It helps to set the potted potatoes in deep mulch - if they dry out they don't perform well.
I've got three 16' rows of purple potatoes in (about 3" tall now) and they perform very well in that bed.

I've done them in pots over the years. The yield is smaller, but it is still fun and a great educational tool.

4. Thanks for the tip!
We have 4 pots---this will be a learning experience. I expect some things not to make it, but then we'll make adjustments next season.

5. Oh, they will grow.
I've got a 3rd year volunteer coming up in the middle of the pansies - I forgot I had planted some there and it is hard to get rid of them.

7. potatoes in pots
Hi,
Wow, I do some container gardening and never would have thought about trying spuds in pots. I'm going to message you about this, hope you don't mind.

Peace

6. Good luck with your garden!
My wife gives it her all every year to grow several vegetables for us. From the heat to the birds and squirrels, it can be pretty tough. It's also hard to find good sun in our tree-filled yard. I do always enjoy the ones that do make it to the table very much!
