I have to admit , some of the episodes are extremely well written . Despite the lack of bells and whistles there is some REAL sci-Fi here .

I had my impression of Star Trek as silly , and childish from watching TNG reruns . what I have seen up to now is much superior. And despite the cheesy effects and sometimes direction everything seems much deeper.

The new movie does not even begin to do justice to some episodes scattered within the 26 I finished.

well , i hope season 2 and 3 have the same or close quality.

1. Season 3 is where you'll find most of the worst episodes.

7. But a few good ones like "Requiem for Methusela", "The Tholian Web",
and "Day of the Dove". And I actually like "Specter of the Gun" even if few others do.

10. "The Cloud Minders" from season 3 is great for one reason alone...

Droxine... Best of all the Trek babes. And if I remember, Kirk doesn't get to hit it! This will be my reason to own Season 3 in Blu-Ray...

14. That's right, she only had eyes for Mr. Spock.
I'll wager ole Kirk cornered her off the set though.

2. To quote the great Philip J. Fry...
"You know, 1966, 79 episodes, about 30 good ones..."

The original series had some amazing episodes that were way, way before their time... But for every "Tomorrow is Yesterday" you have a "Spock's Brain" (that one is still a ways off, and trust me, it's ridiculous).

It's a mixed bag, but there are some truly excellent stories in there.

6. Season 3 has the masterpiece "Spock's Brain".
A profound discourse on the human condition.

"Brain and brain! What is brain?"

9. TNG was silly?
I think TNG is, for the most part, much better than TOS...

11. What season were the TNG reruns from?
The first season of TNG was pretty rough, but after that it got better.

I've been watching TOS episodes too - watched City on the Edge of Forever, Mirror Mirror, and Space Seed last night. How did Khan and Chekov recognize each other in Star Trek 2 when Chekov wasn't on the show yet in Space Seed?

The first couple of minutes I laughed a lot at the 60s low budget special effects and sets and the acting and dialogue seemed kind of weird, but after a bit my disbelief was suspended and yeah, a lot of the episodes actually are good.

I think that the movie captures the spirit of TOS (for all the people whining about explosions and noise and scantily clad women - come on, TOS would have had explosions if they'd had the budget and ability and almost every episode has a woman, often scantily clad, who ends up making out with Kirk), and I'm willing to give them a bit of wiggle room for having to introduce all the characters in this movie but I do expect a good old TOS philosophical story in the sequel.

15. The usual explanation
is that while Chekov was not yet a bridge officer in the first season he could still have been part of the crew, stationed elsewhere on the ship. Walter Koenig always jokingly suggested that Checkov kept Khan waiting at a toilet once, which would explain why Khan recognized him so quickly.

13. The captured by aliens with godlike powers seems to be a reoccurring theme.
I really like TOS, but some of the stories were really phoned in. The ones I really find threadbare are the ones where they are captured by aliens and made to fight each other or other aliens.
