I'm not really a big coke/soda/pop/cola (ha ha, see how I avoided starting a flamewar there) fan, but this is some good stuff. I heard there's a Mt Dew Throwback as well. Gotta find some of that.

1. How is is different?
Is there sugar in it instead of HFCS?

There's your flame war material

2. It's sweetened with sugar instead of HFCS
and I love it. Both Pepsi and Mountain Dew taste completely different, without that syrupy bitter aftertaste found in HFCS sodas. Everytime I shop around for them, they seem to sell like hotcakes. I too hope that Pepsi will be smart enough to keep them going for longer than the planned eight weeks.

11. Didn't know that
I try to avoid sodas, specifically because of the HFCS. But it's always good to have some about for caffeine needs.

Seems like I remember a few canefields in western, southern/central Florida.

Not much though. I may be wrong.

A lot of our sugar also comes from sugar beets, too.

18. Bah. Sore subject. :(

I am drinking freaking BOATLOADS (like almost 100 oz/day) of TEA these days because of a 40 day program my doctor has me on. Yerba Mate in the morning, Oolong in the afternoon and Chamomile at night. And I don't even like tea. And she won't let me have any sugar or artificial sweetener (in the tea or otherwise), either. TEA, coffee and water are all I am allowed to drink. :( THANK GOD for Stevia (she allows that) or I would never be able to do this program.

But yeah, fair disclosure... otherwise when I drink the occasional soft drink, I am a Coke girl (or man, ha ha). Pepsi was always too sweet for me.

You?

But you have to promise not to tell my doctor.

I will even throw in an entire container of Stevia.

Please.

15. I totally agree...
I bought a bottle this past weekend thinking it was the regular kind and boy was I pleasantly surprised! It actually has flavor besides "sweet"

I don't usually buy Pepsi in the case but I saw them at Target and was very tempted...

23. I'd like to try the Throwback
I don't drink coffee and drink very little alcohol, so a soda is my big "treat". Pepsi Throwback is unavailable in a fifty-mile radius of our house.

We are the home of Jones Soda. One would think that a soda using sugar instead of HFCS would do well here, wouldn't it?

I have tried Pepsi Natural; I thought it was good.

cool. How is corn syrup not kosher?

I'm close to the border so I could go get Mexican Coke I guess. Of course they are probably using crap now too. Plastic 2 liter bottles arrived a few years ago. bleh.

Edited on Thu May-14-09 01:40 PM by Patiod
If you buy Coke which is kosher for Passover (yellow cap), it doesn't have HFCS.

I asked my dad's nursing home roommate, whose brother is some sort of Scholar of Kosher, but the roommate never got back to me with an answer before my dad was discharged. Something about corn vs. sugar. Hell, what do I know - I'm Irish, just lucky to have Jewish friends who buy extra for us during Passover. It's the only soda I drink anymore - a few Kosher for Passover Cokes once a year!
