TV- shows that will/will not be back next season Chuck? Law&Order? Ugly Betty?
It's time again for the TV upfronts, when television networks present next season's offerings for Madison Ave. in hopes of booking early ad revenue and generating buzz for next season's hopeful hits. It's ... moregenerally the place where the networks announce their new fall schedules, as well as the last chance for many shows that haven't been renewed to get a last-minute reprieve.

"Chuck"
the show was not included on NBC's fall schedule. Having said that, it has also not been canceled.

"Fringe" (FOX)
Congratulations, "Fringe" fans, the J.J. Abrams sci-fi thriller has been renewed for year two.

"Medium" (NBC)
Though it was reported that the show would return for a sixth season, the Patricia Arquette drama was strangely absent from NBC's fall schedule. Insiders say the holdup lies with Patricia Arquette's contract, which requires a 22-episode commitment, more than the
... morenetwork was hoping to produce. The network, however, says a decision on the show has not yet been finalized. It is speculated that the network will indeed renew it, along with several others, on May 19

"Ugly Betty" (ABC)
After three seasons, the fate of "Ugly Betty" hung in the balance for much of the season, before earning an early pickup from ABC recently. "It didn't seem so early," Vanessa Williams, who plays Wilhelmina Slater on the show, told us. "We've been waiting for ... morea while."

"Scrubs" (ABC)
Long thought to be the show's final season, news has surfaced that it may return for a ninth season. It will certainly be Zach Braff's final season, and many of the show's regulars have been cast in other pilots, which would presumably be their priorities should
... moreany of their series get picked up for the fall. As well, creator Bill Lawrence is hard at work on "Cougar Town" with Courteney Cox, but ABC stands to make sizable profits on future "Scrubs" episodes, given its solid performance in syndication.

"Cold Case" (CBS)
Along with "Without a Trace," the venerable procedural may be in trouble.

"Law & Order" (NBC)
Word on whether this long-running show will continue is rumored to happen on May 19, though the network did already announce a renewal for its "SVU" counterpart. With Jay Leno moving into the 10 o'clock hour during the week, there are fewer slots on the ... moreschedule, but speculation is that the flagship drama will indeed return.

"Parks and Recreation" (NBC)
Amy Poehler fans, rejoice; you'll have ample opportunity to see this comedy next season.

"My Name Is Earl" (NBC)
Given its past ratings performance, you may surprised to know that "My Name Is Earl" may not be back next season. According to The New York Times, with the show heading into its fifth season, license fees to the network would nearly double, and in today's... more economic climate that could be enough to cause the network to opt for something cheaper. Should that happen, FOX has apparently expressed interest in picking it up.

"Ghost Whisperer" (CBS)
In much the same boat as "My Name Is Earl," the Jennifer Love Hewitt drama is a solid, if not stellar, performer on Friday nights, but with licensing fees for its fifth season expected to reach $3 million an episode, CBS may balk at the hefty price tag

"Life" (NBC)
"Life," it seems, will not go on.

"Heroes" (NBC)
Though the show has been sagging creatively for the past few seasons, NBC has renewed it for another season

"Samantha Who?" (ABC)
You may soon be asking yourself that same question, as the Christina Applegate comedy appears bound for cancellation. The show was yanked early from ABC's schedule a few weeks ago, and the network has yet to issue any news about its future.

"Friday Night Lights" (NBC)
Good news, sports fans: "FNL" has been renewed for an additional season.

"The New Adventures of Old Christine" (CBS)
On the bubble last season as well, "Christine" is in the unfortunate position of being on a network that already has several well-performing comedies, unlike ABC, who is rumored to be interested in picking up the series should CBS decline.

3. It sucks with "Life"
they just started showing the first season on German TV and I love it. I would have loved to see it going on for more than two seasons. Well, at least I have still the most ahead of me. That is if they continue showing it on German TV.

9. New "episodes" supposed to be coming out relatively soon, IIRC.
Dammit Joss, stop working on the eighth season of Buffy and give us another Serenity miniseries...
