Exactly when did South Park jump the shark?
I remember the first couple of seasons, I watched it regularly. But the last episode I thought was really funny was the mormon episode (dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb!), probably because I am an ex-mormon.

But I watched it last week and remembered why I don't tend to watch it anymore. It's just crass, rude, crude and worst of all, completely unfunny. (If it's funny, gimme all the crass rude and crude ya got!) When did this happen? At what point did Parker and Stone just run out of ideas and turn their little cartoon into a mere weekly attempt to outdo the shock factor of each previous episode?

1. Never. They've always been hit or miss, crass, rude and crude.

2. Agreed. Hit or miss is an apt description.

9. I figured it out. I'm older now. My humor isn't as immature as it once was.
Therefore, South Park largely doesn't appeal to me anymore.

I also find the ignorant right-wing screeds frequently contained in the episodes to be godawfully offensive.

Oh well. The Daily Show is the only real reason to watch Comedy Central anymore, anyway.

4. Like The Simpsons, never. It's not as good as the earlier seasons, but still pretty good.

16. The pirate episode was solid
Pirate 4: (walks up to the two boys) Excuse me. Can I ask you a question?
Butters: Oh. Uhuh sure, Galeed.
Galeed: Why did you Americans come here?
Butters: Well, 'cause our lives sucked back home! We had all these rules and homework.
Ike: Yeah, homework.
Butters: And our parents hollered at us!
Ike: Yeah.
Butters: So we wanted to come here and be pirates.
Ike: Piewets!
Galeed: But that's what I do not understand. Why would anyone "want" to be a pirate?
Butters: Huh?
Galeed: Every day I dream that I can go to school. Learn about the world. But my mother, she is dyin' of AIDS, and there is no money for medicine. My father was killed trying to find food for us. Do you know how I feel every time we try to capture a boat? Scared. And not just scared because I might get killed, but scared because if I don't get something out of it, my family and friends are going to die. I don't want to be a pirate. I don't see how anybody would.
Ike: Oh my God.
Butters: Jeez. Guess we kind of got put in our place, huh Ike?
Ike: I feel, like an asshole.

8. It hasn't yet.
The only episode I didn't like was the "You got served" episode a couple of seasons ago. It's still a great show.

10. I'll give you the crass and crude.
It is that in spades. One either finds offensive humor or else one doesn't. You can chalk me up in the low-brow category. Even though they have struck out on a number of their episodes and I don't always agree with the point they are making; I still usually find it very funny and very clever. Did you see the Easter episode? I thought it was brilliant.

11. I have no problem with "offensive" humor; I'm a Family Guy fan.
But South Park....

I just don't even grin when I watch it now. Not even slightly. In fact, I usually wind up rolling my eyes and quickly changing the channel, while wishing for those minutes of my life back.

13. Well, to each his own, I guess.
I never could get into King of the Hill myself. I mean, it's well done and I can see why people find it funny. I just don't. Maybe it's a regional thing.

14. Yeah, humor is very subjective. How else do you explain the popularity of Larry the Cable Guy?
Well, I mean other than the rank stupidity of a large percentage of the American populace, that is.

15. You described my experience with "Family Guy" to the letter
It's fucking horrible these days. The only good characters out of Seth McFarlane these days are Roger and Steve from American Dad. It also doesn't hurt that Steve is just like our own Pierre.Suave

17. Around the time of the movie. Which was 10 years or so ago.
The first two or so seasons everyone was into that, especially if you lived on a college campus at that time. People actually had South Park viewing parties.

Then the movie came, and then Parker and Stone started to run out of ideas. Every episode was either: let's lampoon some recent movie or let's talk about some topical issue and make fun of everybody involved. Even when Parker/Stone were correct in their observations on said topical issue, they still came off as preachy and annoying, IMHO.

20. I really don't think it ever did.
IMHO it's one of the few shows that has been really solidly funny through many seasons. It's the one show that I really look forward to seeing a new episode of. This past season I didn't much care for the Coon vs. Mysterion episode, it was just not that funny, but I really enjoyed "Margeritaville" and the "Somali pirates" episodes.

21. It didn't change; you did. You got tired of the same premise shown over & over.
Oh, look, these 3rd graders cuss a lot and say precocious things about hypocricy in modern society. Let's buy their merchandise!
