Do we have a American Airstocracy
Edited on Tue Aug-12-03 02:23 AM by rusk2003
with all of the celebrities and famous rich people mostly in Hollywood and NewYork whom America has that recieves special treatment from the law, business's,clubs, organizations, politicans and everyday people just like it was in France and still is in Ebngland.
There was famous people in those times and still today but they are/was out ranked. Like shakespare was a ancieent celebrity but ovrershadowed by the Royalty and Airstocracy of the country. AS where now there is no one to outrank the celebrites in status and thus creating a Airstocracy.

I think we do and will have a more powerful airsocracy in the next twenty years or so. " what does everyone else think.

1. Well, duh... we always have had one, all the way back
read some real history.

With only a few exceptions. Lincoln. Carter. are the two that come to mind right away.

2. Any society grounded in wealth accumulation will...
...eventually become a class-system.

But don't mistake wealth for aristocracy. "Master P" or Ben Afleck will never be part of the power elite who actually run things. Look higher. Much, much higher.

4. That's true to a point, but...
I think it's more likely that these people (celebrities) are allowed to succeed because they are centrists, and do not rock the boat. Look what happens when they critique the status quo. I'm thinking of the Dixie Chicks, Edward Asner, etc.

Rare exceptions are allowed to succeed while taking a real stand on anything.

6.  They don't have to make a politcal stance and most people still like them
Edited on Tue Aug-12-03 02:41 AM by rusk2003
They could just speak up of for peace, cancer, children, animals, enviomental concerns, as well as other issues people all care about like sick dying children and homeless people and pets. Domestic Violance etc, Besides it is the Republicans, warmongers, and people who aggered with the war whom portray those celebrties who spoke out on the war in a negitive light and celebrites whom did not know what they were talking about. Plus some of the ones made personal attacks on The President's Character which many people thought was in bad taste. It is a lot better to say someone is lying on this or this than to call the person a liar.

10. Read history, we have always had it.
It just has not been as bad as Europe. We have never had a caste thank God so we can all move around in the classes even if it is some what hard to do. The biggest movement we have had is the results of the GI bill. Millions were educated at gov cost and moved out of their class. Look who runs the banks and business and gov. They either come from the old people who have always been around (FDR comes from the oldest ruling family in countries history) to the families that got their from the college educaion of the GI bill. Money helps you to reach power and so does education but education and money can only keep you there. Do you see any GOP that wish free education? They also make laws to protect their money. In our early history only someone who owned land could vote.
