2. The pick between
Metroid and Zelda was extremely difficult. Both games helped me pass (waste) a LOT of time as a youngster.

Oinal Fantasy was a huge one for me as well.

Any real fan of Contra hated the two player mode. It was a death trap.

10. It is...
... but the cheat code for one player was up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, b, a, start. Hitting select made it two players.

9. Other: Bionic Commando
So simple, yet so demanding. Equals and even bests Contra in satisfying the run-&-shoot part of your brain while requiring careful timing and dexterity. Plus, you got to have a kickass bionic arm.

I also loved Tetris, but it's not primarily an NES experience.

Hi,
The Zelda games have been what have kept me buying new Nintendo consoles for a long time. It is so hard to find games like that these days. If anyone has any suggestions for games that are close to those I would appreciate any recommendations in my pm box.

Peace

24. That wasn't a real Mario game - not outside of the US at least
"Unlike the majority of other Mario titles, SMB2 was not developed from an independent point, but rather it is a redesign of the Japanese Famicom Disk System game Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic. Nintendo's original sequel to Super Mario Bros. was released in Japan as "Super Mario Bros. 2" in 1986, however because of that game's perceived difficulty and its close similarities to the original game, Nintendo decided not to release it in the West at that time."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_Bros._2

The Japanese thought Super Mario 2 would be too hard for us Americans! And I will have to say - it is a DAMN hard game. Showed up on the SNES in Super Mario All-Stars as Super Mario: The Lost Levels. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the US SMB2 - but it really wasn't very Mario-ish.

30. Interesting!
I probably would've bombed at the real SMB 2 then, lol. Boy does all this take me back. When I moved to the states I spent a lot of that awkward adjusting time parked in front of a NES, getting blisters. :D

32. I sucked at the real Super Mario 2 at first
Took a long time to beat as Luigi controlled slightly different than Mario. It's been so long, I can't even remember who I beat it with. Luigi I think. At any rate - it's hard but not impossible. You can check it our by dowloading a good SNES emulator like ZSNES and then the rom file for Super Mario All-Stars (which contains Super Mario 1, 2, 3 and Lost Levels - the real SMB2) and play it on your PC. I got a USB gamepad and it plays just like the original. Ah yeah brings back memories. I think it was quite common back then for kids/teens to park themselves in front of a nintendo for hours and hours. An all around fun system to play - and pretty groundbreaking graphics and games wise at the time. :)

17. I prefer Super Mario Bros. 3 to the original.
And the PC version of Double Dragon was SO much better than the NES version. I grew up with the PC version. First time I tried the NES version I was amazed at the difference. The level design was the same. But the moves, the graphics, everything was better on the PC.

19. Came down to Zelda or Mario for me
I went with Zelda for it's longer, more varied gameplay. Although I really could go with either - both changed the face of gaming as we knew it back then.

Metroid would be next in line in my book - an awesomely fun game to play.

I have a soft spot in my heart for all the Mario games, though. Also Duck Hunt.

The arcade Ninja Turtles game was fun, but the fist TMNT NES game was infuriatingly impossible. I HATED that game.

38. It was tough to decide between Mario Brothers, Duck Hunt, and Zelda.
Edited on Thu May-21-09 02:06 AM by Jamastiene
But my personal favorite is not in your poll. I loved loved loved Pirates. That was a great game. I played it for hours upon hours. I loved trying to learn how to use the navigation on the ships. My favorites were the galleons. I miss that game.

On edit: I finally chose Mario Brothers. I barely got to play Duck Hunt because my mother made me stop all that noise so much and I only ever got to rent Zelda every once in a while, unfortunately. So, I played Mario for hours on end...and Pirates.

Here's a taste of what Pirates was like:

I actually played Genghis Khan through to the 21st century, setting some kind of all-time record for time wasting, so maybe that should be my choice. Kudos for having Tecmo Bowl on the poll, though.

49. You have to buy Wii Points and there is a Wii Shopping Channel
Edited on Thu May-21-09 09:23 AM by LynneSin
You can actually buy them thru the Wii SHopping Channel on your Wii or you can go to a variety of stores (including the link I've posted or you can just go to any store that sells Wii's) and buy a Wii card pre-loaded with Wii Points.

Once you load your points you can shop and there is a section for all the classic NES games. Zelda and SMB were each 500 Wii Points (which equates to about $5). You don't even have to buy classic style NES controllers, just hold your Wii Controller sideways (the + arrows go to the left) and you're playing the game.

http://www.amazon.com/Wii-2000-Points-Card-nintendo/dp/B000IMYL0U

That's the Wii Card. But honestly, I just bought 3000points using my Credit Card right over the Wii Channel. BTW, you need to have your Wii connected to the internet. I happen to have my house setup with wireless internet so I just connected my Wii thru that (Wii can be connected wirelessly)
