kama'aina = local Hawai'i person, literally "child of the land". There has been some confusion over this of late, with at least two DUers mistaking it for a feminine name!

In the event, the word is often used in the phrase kama'aina rate, that is, "We can't legally charge the tourists extra, so we'll give locals a dep discount". And Mom and I have checked into a Waikiki hotel room (all of a ten-minute bus ride from my house!) under my kama'aina rate.

So if any of you would like to go surfing with me, or watch the hula dancers at sunset (tomorrow), or "whatevahs", just say so!
