Am I the only one who has no desire to see the new Star Trek?
Edited on Fri May-22-09 07:42 AM by motely36
Of course, I have never seen a Star Trek movie, so it's understandable that I will not see this one.

the only summer movie I am looking forward to is the Half-Blood Prince!

3. I don't
Edited on Fri May-22-09 08:16 AM by MorningGlow
I used to watch the various series but never got around to the movies.

However, the main reason I'm avoiding it is that it's been defined by several of my "oh god don't see this movie" descriptors:

- "wild ride"
- "reboot"
- "highly anticipated by fanboys"

Etc.

I find myself highly turned off by the latest overused catchphrase, "reboot". The only way I could be more uninterested is if somebody decides to declare the movie's theme as one of "redemption". (Seems like everything coming out of Hollywood is about "redemption" these days, so I wouldn't be surprised.)

On edit: close parens

4. one karl malden effectivelty cancels out an army of pretty boy, non descript actors
and that is all that hollywood does: makes product that is inoffensive to as wide a demographic as possible.

they will put the cast of dawson's creek and gilmore girls in every movie now for the next 10 years.

they do it specifically because the new hollywood talent IS NOT challenging.

11. I liked Gilmore Girls but I thought few of the cast could be called conventionally attractive.

16. A critic on WGN (Chicago CW affiliate) previewed the new CW season this morning.
You're right. The cast of pretty much every show looked like this:

5. I saw it
But I had no desire. I don't get what the hub-bub's about. It was kind of fun, but so was Angels and Demons and I don't see anyone shitting linoleum over that movie.

The only film I'm looking forward to now, thanks to a thread on DU, is Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus... Currently being downloaded at home, as we speak.

It's so obvious Hollywood has an anti-narwhal bias.

Assholes.

8. Absolutely ZERO interest in that inane feature ...
I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney than to sit through that tripe.

21. Well, IMAX is best suited for big visuals...
And the only thing I like about NuTrek is the ship design and the effects... pity there's no substance, but I've come to accept that in modern media. No substance; just "emotional wanking".

18. Except Gene Roddenberry wanted Trek to be cerebral...
even the original 1964 pilot was turned down because it was 'too cerebral'.

The Onion is right, but for all the wrong reasons.

I love it when that happens... :D

24. Trekkies seem to have a selective memory about the show
They tend to forget that for every "City on The Edge of Forever" there was a "Spock's Brain" AND a "Way to Eden".

19. I'm a TOS fan--and I refuse to see this
I know the movie is critically acclaimed, but I simply can't accept other actors playing these iconic characters.

20. Do you remember 'Star Trek V'?
Most of the cast ensemble were treated as self-parodies just for the sake of comedy.

This Abrams abomination does the same thing with the characters.

I can accept the actors - who were rather good, actually. The problem is, Abrams and his ghost-writers who did the actual work of digging up various quotes and scenes to steal scribbled out skunk manure and try to pawn it off as a Trek-worthy plot.

Even Trek V is better. And it didn't hurt me as much as I'd expected when saying that either.

Probably because I'm pretty sure this movie screws up the "Trek Canon".

25. I watch all documentaries.
I believe this was filmed by the Astronauts from the Space Shuttle
while going through outer space. It should be interesting and captivatong
with a lot of mind-bogling things.
