19. I had a math professor in Germany that worked on rocket fuels for the Nazis

He missed being snatched up in Paperclip because the Russians had already rushed him off to the USSR. He defected from USSR to the USA in the early fifties and continued rocket fuel research somewhere in Georgia, USA. He wrote a book on it before he retired and was very, very proud of the work.

After he retired, he returned to Germany and taught American soldiers part-time for U. of Maryland. I was lucky to take a class from him because he prepared me very well for all my college science courses. I wish I could remember his name.

He didn't come home until three days later, covered in bandages from head to toe.
