1. I thought they didn't wear habits anymore? Or maybe it depends on the type of nun?

2. Because of the Nazis
But it begins with the Illuminati, who have been running them for centuries, which made the Swiss Bankers speak to the Nazis.

And as long as America is no longer on the gold standard, nuns wear black.

18. I doubt it, because the Church doesn't consider Christ dead.

19. You just reminded me of a quote from Dogma:
Bethany: You're suggesting I need to get filled?

Liz: In more ways than one. You need to get laid, Bethany Sloane. You need a man, if only for ten minutes.

Bethany: It's been my experience that the average male is never a man. Not even for ten minutes in his entire lifespan.

Liz: That's a bit militant. You thinking of joining the other side?

Bethany: Couldn't do it. Women are insane.

Liz: Then YOU need to go back to church and ask God for a third option.

Bethany: I think that God is dead.

Liz: The sign of a true Catholic.

8. Black has a long tradition because it's not flashy or ornate, and does not draw attention.
The color for clergy (and, really, many other professionals) has been black because it's not a color- colors being thought of as something that drawn attention to the wearer, makes a statement, is flashy, and so on.

In the world of the cloistered, a color of conformity - and a drab color that also denotes poverty, selflessness, and focusing not on the self - is the preferred color.

15. Real answer (I'm an ex CCD teacher):
Nuns are secretly Ninjas.

KIDDING.

Seriesly: it signifies their "died in this world," ie left their secular life and dedicated themselves to Christ.

However, many orders did/still do wer other color habits (blue is a big one, to honor the Blessed Mother).

17. It saddens me that people give up their only real life...
...in hopes of better one that probably will never happen. That's not sarcasm, it really does make me sad.

16. Church tradition. Black is "il penseroso" or the color of contemplation
In this manner, nuns are a direct spiritual antecedent to goths, emos, and Cure-addicted teens.

Also black is more slimming. Swimsuit weather is here, girls!

of misbehaving young boys.

Hell, It's been decades since I was in CCD and I'm pretty sure that Sister Brutalia is still concealed in a nearby shadow... :scared:
