~~~ and that my friends is what a Super Load looks like.
Jeff Reardon is the truck driver for this trip. His wonderful wife, Joyce, is the other escort driver.
As I've said before ... this is really a trip. A road trip.
At photobucket, click on the Direct link line (second one under the pic) and copy it, and then you can paste that link into your thread here :pals:
3. photos
I've included some photos that look the same but if you look closely you'll see other trucks in the background (and foreground) for size comparison. The combined weight of truck & load is 90 tons.
In New York the truck needed 2 escorts when it was running empty. :wow:
10. I'm gonna install an exterior PA speaker to shout out something like that.
I would never never say anything rude but I guess flashing light, flapping warning flags aren't enough to get some folks attention.
In Massachusetts an older gentleman pulling a camper tried to pass the front flag/escort car as we were pulling out of a gas station. She tried her darnedest to stop him to no avail.
It was our good luck that a Mass Trooper was on the shoulder writing a ticket. He was able to stop the camper before anyone was hurt.
8. I really am having fun.
We are so heavy that at times we are traveling no faster than 25 to 30 mph up the rolling hills on Route 80. It's going to be a long slow ride.
We'll pick up a 3rd escort at the state line for the trip through Kentucky.
7. The load is a large rock crusher.
We came out of Connecticut through New York and into Pennsylvania on Route 84. We're still in Pa. at the moment just off Route 80.
The Newburgh-Beacon Bridge in NY was closed to traffic (for a very short time) on Thursday afternoon as we crossed. Too much weight might cause a collapse of the bridge.
11. It looks like escorting is the only way I'll get back to Michigan.
I want you to stay well until we meet again. :hug:
I've had two truckers scare me a bit thus far already on this trip. They should know better than to tailgate me up a hill. If my trucker had any trouble in front of me I might have gotten squished! :grr: It's my job to keep everyone away from his back bumper when I'm the chase car but I'm gonna need more space from some of those cowboys on the road.
I'll be posting escorting photos and anything else worth sharing as much as possible
16. I've really got to.
My husband became totally disabled last Fall. Now it's my turn to support us the best way I can.
I can't think of anyway to make this much money legally, honestly and morally upright.
17. Travel Update ~
The load is on it's way to Laredo, Texas.
I dropped off in Arkansas.
After a quick BBQ lunch I started homeward bound.
It was a successful job. No accidents, no tickets.
My paycheck should arrive within 30 days.
:D
