Bella got ate up by some mosquitoes, but here is my baby doll!
She has been to the doctor for this nasty mosquito bite on her face. The mosquitoes are hardcore around here. They are getting her in the house while she is sleeping. We are doing our best to eradicate them, BUT here is my HAPPY baby doll!!!!! :)

I am investing in some Avon SSS, but they love her. Her little bump on her face has turned into impetigo!! WTF? She is too little to have to worry about that damn shit. Bless her little ole heart, but as you can see, she hasn't a clue! Only mama is freaking!! :) In these pics, the bump looks great. Yesterday was a different deal, but now she is on antibiotics and benadryl!

5. awwww..poor Bella!
And she's such a happy baby! :bounce:

A suggestion for making your own mosquito net:
You could buy tulle netting and hang it from the ceiling around her crib to a couple of feet away from all crib boundaries so she can't reach or get tangled in it.
Just tack the netting to the ceiling (furring strips work well) and add two ribbons, about a foot in length each, attached from the top of netting dropped from ceiling near each side edge. That way you can roll it up and tie it all out of her reach when she's not asleep.

Tulle netting is inexpenisve, and you can tailor it to fit the way you want it to hang.
Plus, tulle comes in many colors, so you can go with the nursery colors, or a mix of several colors. :)

Thanks for posting those pics, Shell! I love seeing Bella! :hi:

I hope we are able to give her a sibling. She was 5 years in the making. After 4 failed pregnancies, she came about! I will be fine if she is an only child, but I do wish to give her a brother or sister. We will quit after 2, if we are lucky enough to have 2. She is all I need though! I can't imagine loving anything more.

was fearful of what I would get the second time. Besides I was 36 when she was born and had NO complications, illness or issues. Figured I better not push my luck.

She is now 24 and a wonderful young adult.

58. Yeah, I was 37, really close to 38
My midwife was damned twitchy about my age, especially when I told her I wanted to give birth without drugs if I could help it. When my contractions quit late in the game (during the "pushing" phase) she was poised to whisk me to an OR. (Didn't have to, thank goodness.) Kidlet is fine so far. He's entered the "lil' stinker" phase now (5 1/2), but I think I'll let him live to see 6. His level of stinkerness is still much milder than other kids' level of stinkerness!

They are very common around these parts. My husband got bit by one when he was younger. I take no chances.

I do love the combo or fair skin, red hair, and ginormous blue eyes!!We question it every day. The blue eyes freak us out. One of each of our grandparents have blue eyes. That is it.

We use Mosquito Dunks in our rain barrels. Each tablet controls for 30 days. Also, if she will drink brewers yeast, it makes our blood unappealing. The Avon stuff is good, you can also just buy citronella essential oil, and mix a lotion up yourself.

She got bitten once when we were outside, and then all of a sudden, in two nights, she got 3 major bites while sleeping. I am blown away by it. I did read that mosquitoes are attracted to the hemoglobin in baby blood. Not really sure how true that is, but my husband and I have yet to be bitten inside.

42. Yep, our southern mosquitoes are buzz-saws
Edited on Sun May-24-09 09:44 PM by mentalsolstice
They're small but they can chew up a whole human, quickly. They've hit us late this year, I've been able to sit out and enjoy our knock-out roses peacefully for the past several weeks, but the skeeters have really started to bite this last week.

We have the most beautiful double Rose of Sharon tree off of our back porch (I always think of "Alice in Wonderland" when it blooms), but it's so hard to enjoy it because of the biters. It hasn't flowered yet, yet I can see buds, once it flowers it'll bloom through Aug.-early Sept, with the deepest pink/purple flowers. However, to enjoy it I'll have to give up pints of blood every day.

Mosquitoes are probably the 2nd most ruiner of my life besides family problems. But then again, if I could sit outside and enjoy my flowers and nature without scratching to death, I'd probably get through the family dysfunction a whole lot better.
