Shields: 'I Wish I'd Lost My Virginity Sooner'
Brooke Shields regrets losing her virginity at the age of 22 - insisting she waited too long to have sex for the first time.

The actress refrained from getting intimate with a man until she was in her early twenties because she wasn't confident about her looks.

And, if she could do it all again, Shields is adamant she would experiment sexually at a much younger age.

She tells Health magazine, "(I regret) not learning to love the way I looked earlier. I think I would have had sex a lot earlier.

"I would have lost my virginity earlier than I did, at 22, (because) I would have been much more in touch with myself. To me, that's a health regret."

http://www.imdb.com/news/ni0798509/

I was always there, Brooke. All you had to do was call me. :-)

1. Well, I would have liked to have lost mine before age 25.
So what?

Some celebrities didn't do it until their mid-late 30s either.

54. I think there is more to it than just how old Brooke was when she lost it...
Edited on Tue May-26-09 09:13 AM by LynneSin
All throughout her teen years she was plugged to be this 'goody-two' shoes type girl - she didn't smoke, she wouldn't drink and she'd save herself for marriage. She was probably one of the first poster-girls for 'abstinence-only' (even though it wasn't a marketing ploy in the 80s like it is today)

I think what Brooke is really telling us is that these concepts are a bit unrealistic.

I grew up with Brooke Shields, she's really only a few months older than me. I couldn't stand her back when I was a teen because she was such a 'goody-two shoes' and although I was not the poster child for rebellious teenagers, I had my fun starting at age 17. But I have to admit that these past years I've seen a new side of her, probably starting with her support of using anti-depressants to deal with her post-partum depression and NOT taking any crap from Tom Cruise about it.

There are alot of moms out there Brooke Shield's age that have teenage daughters hitting that point in life. Perhaps hearing this message from Brooke, some of them may think to not be so over restrictive with their daughters and force unrealistic concepts on them like "Abstinence-Only". This is not advocating that our daughters go out there and sleep with anything and everything but instead teaching our daughters a healthy respect for sex.

You're not alone in wishing things would've happened sooner. But life is what it is. Although we may like to and selectively change certain things there's no going back.

when they are younger, women that are beautiful often have low self-esteem (sometimes, i say...). I think they tend to magnify every flaw they have, no matter how minor.

9. In retrospect I waited too long, and I was only 16.
But I was miserable and devoting entirely too much attention to thoughts of all that sex I wasn't having, and it made me depressed. I think my teenage years would have been a bit happier if I'd discarded my virginity a few boyfriends back of when I finally did.

18. What I am about to say is HORRIBLE, But fuck it.
If I'd known then what I know now, I'd have had more sex. I lost my virginity at 15, so it isn't like I was a late bloomer. But I was a horn dog, and I tried not to be. It wasn't that I didn't have a fair amount of sex, I just know I'd have been happier with more, instead of trying to conform to society. Of course, I was being responsible with condoms and the like. And I don't advocate young girls losing their virginity at 15 or anything. FOR ME I think being more open about it could have helped. Hard to explain

I was 15, and I was SO grateful when it finally happened. Glory hallelujah! He was 26, and I had to work SO HARD to get him to overcome his age issues and fuck me. We'd been together for 9 months when it finally happened and we were together for 3 months after that -- until I dumped him for an even older guy. I was a pretty loathsome person then, honestly - I only cared about sex, rock music, and who had better access to get me into indie-rock shows without having to show ID (the guy I dumped him for was a record store owner and also better with his hands sexually); I was cruel and shallow.

I'd had an 18-year-old boyfriend when I was 13, and I was always trying to grab his hand and move it where I wanted it - and he was always fighting me off, because he was a Christian and wanted to wait.

We ran into each other about 8 years after that - he was married and he said he HAD waited, and was happy about that - and of course I hadn't, and was equally happy about that. We high-fived each other and went back to talking about what our main common interest always had been: guitars, BOC, and Motorhead. :)

the worse it is on you sexually. I know. I live down here in Southern Baptist territory. You might be surprised how much alike some of these down here where I live and the Arab world are. Both would have things overly oppressive, as far as sexuality goes, if allowed.

17. I am perfectly happy with my age-14 virginity loss.
And to a guy much older than me, too. It's anathema to admit it because for a lot of girls, older guys are a bad idea, and I'm not advocating that everyone do as I did--but still, I wouldn't change a thing if I could go back. He was what I, as an individual, needed at the time, and as I approach my 30th birthday next month, I still value that experience as much today as I did back then.

20. I had sex at 22 1/2 for the first time... and, I was depressed for the 6-7 years before that
because i thought everybody else was having sex, but why not me? I was too shy to go out & lose it myself. And, back in the 1980s, it was rare for women to pursue men, so it took me until I was that much older to find the right woman.

25. Well, you raise a very important point when it comes to virginity and sex.
If you want to lose your virginity young, and you are a guy, you want Mrs. Right Now, not Mrs. Right.

And believe it or not, not all men are "Mr. Right Now." There are lots of men who would prefer Mrs. Right as well.

28. That is true
guys in high school & college tend to go for Ms Right Now. Not always the case, though. The young woman I ended up first having sex with was a girl I had the hots for from the day I met her (as did every other guy in my dorm...) However, she was drunk one time a few months before that, and started coming on to me, and even flashed me her boobs in the hallway (this was at like 2 in the morning, so nobody else was around) And, I didn't go for it then because I didn't want to take advantage of her when she was drunk. And, i just realized, it is almost exactly 20 years ago to this day (it was late May 1989, a few days after I had graduated...)

However, down the road, I ended up getting taken advantage of a few times by women in sexual situations in my 20s because I was on the inexperienced side. If I had gotten sex a bit earlier and/or often, it might not have been.

30. Not necessarily.
I got taken advantage of plenty when I was young, and it wasn't due to sexual inexperience; it was due to my own insecurity and lack of self-esteem. Having sex reasonably young didn't spare me from that.

I lost mine finally when I was older than that (it's a long story that I won't go into here). I just can't imagine having sex at 14 or 15, and wishing it had happened earlier! Sorry, that's just so not right, IMO.

Call me a prude, whatever. Kids that young shouldn't be having sex, especially with people a lot older than they are.

41. I had heard that complaint frequently over the years, but
because I don't read such magazines I never paid it much attention - and, in fact, I always thought it was basically whining on the part of people who weren't supermodels. Then I saw a a magazine at a checkout stand which featured a picture of Jennifer Love Hewitt in a bathing suit along with the claim that she was now, suddenly, fat. She wasn't (in fact, she looked stunning as always), but that was the claim.

That's when I finally understood.

50. People should become intimate when they're ready. Too much focus on virginity isn't healthy.
Society is still treating a woman's first sexual experience as an economic prize to be won by a man or to be expended by a woman. This is entirely the wrong focus for a healthy sexuality on the part of both sexes. The whole business (no pun intended!) is entirely too creepy for my taste.
