7. It's possible not to know about Stonewall.
I didn't until I was nearly 30.

12. Yes. I plead ignorance.
I didn't come out until age 24, and never had a sense of community until I'd joined a gay/friendly chorus in 1993, age 30.

36. Don't feel bad, I've been out since I was 19
and I didn't know what they were until I started posting over in GLBT.

I never really joined up with the GLBT community at all until I started coming to DU, so there were a lot of things that I didn't even know that I didn't know. :)

4. Those fabulous people started something that I couldn't live without.
I'm eternally grateful.

I don't know if I could take part in something like the Stonewall Riots.

13. I could protest, and be arrested. No problem there.
It is the fighting and rioting that I'm not sure of.

16. Well, the rest of my opinion won't be popular, Haruka
I think Stonewall II is the last thing we need. Stonewall woke the country up when most of it was sleeping. The country isn't asleep anymore.

I don't think this country would react kindly to rioting in this issue. I can't say what would happen, but I think it would set us back.

Humbly submitted.

17. I don't see how playing Nice Gay has worked out real well for CA
Edited on Tue May-26-09 03:49 PM by HarukaTheTrophyWife
Considering that Prop 8 passed AND California went for Obama, it stands to show that there's a bunch of people who need to wake the fuck up.

18. I didn't say "playing Nice Gay."
I don't think rioting would help. There are a helluva lot of ways to get down & dirty without causing bloodshed and damage.

Besides, the last thing I want to see happen in my home state is MORE rioting. Apparently we hadn't had enough after Watts; we had to go for it again after the King verdict.

19. Well, the way both Stonewall and the White Night Riots started is because of the cops
I would imagine if rioting was to happen again, it'd be because of cops.

I've seen how eager cops can be to escalate peaceful protests into violence.

I'm pissed, I'm angry! Even though I'm an attorney, I can't wrap my brain around CA's decision...the majority can vote against inalienable rights for the minority, yet those who got in on the calendar are granted those inalienable rights. :wtf:? I was never a great, smart attorney, 2nd-3rd tier law school, C-average grades...and even I see so many holes in this decision.

TrophyWife to another loving trophy wife, no I'm not on Facebook, but maybe I need to be. Right now, my only social networking site is GoodReads.

But seriously, the CA decision is so much bullshit...okay so gay marriage is illegal, unless you got married between such-and-such date, and then we love you.

Feckin' bullshit!

ETA: Yes Stonewall, I know my history.

33. ... how does that work?
I thought it was only just a decade or so ago that the Mormons finally admitted that perhaps dark-skinned people weren't the spawn of Cain and therefore subhuman or somesuch nonsense?
