This Ridley Scott Directed ad is the piece against which I judge all Super Bowl ads. It's completley brilliant. The fast cuts between the runner and the police figures are a very nice touch. Add in a very nice cultural Reference to Orwell's 1984, and you get the best ad ever aired on TV

This ad is nothing short of genius. The transition from the soldiers in the jungle to the old lady in the church is one of the most creative ones I have ever seen. The shot, presumably from the point of view of a large celing-mounted incense censer such as the ones found on many old cathedrals adds to the "wow" factor of this sopt. The ending brings this elegant surrealistic piece to a head. The choir of garishly dressed professional wrestlers, the falling snow and the snowboarder jumping over the pulpit is the intricate icing rose on the top of this visual slice of cake.

Wow. A perfect marriage of song and visuals. I remember the first time I saw this ad in college. I was so impressed that you could have knocked me over with a feather when it was all over.

We see Edvard Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King come to life in this piece. The orchestra engages in a fantastic Tolkienesque battle against a gargoyle and a glass chandelier that has come to life. The violinsts using their bows as flaming arrows, and the cymbalist dispatching a foe with a mighty crash are quite evocative. The falling flower petals surrounding the victorious conductor is a more than cursory nod to Nintendo's Japanese roots.

Biblical imagery abound in clashing a championship High School basketball game with Lacrimosa from Mozart's Requiem in the background. I particularly loves the way the director plays with lighting, as the player, like a thief in the night steals the ball and makes the game winning dunk. We then see the wailing and gnashing of teeth of the players and faithful fans of the losing side. Brilliantly done, the only strike against this ad is the bad edit of the music at the end.

The world of Shakespeare and the console wars collide with a simple, elegant, yet very powerful and effective spot.
