Why is there no tomato on the Big Mac?
It seems that all the franchise burgers out there have tomato on them. All EXCEPT the Big Mac.

I smell conspiracy. And special sauce.

5. Heavens no.
I just saw a McD commercial, where they run through the ingredients. It hit me that there's no tomato on the burger. Lots of stuff, but no tomato.

two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.

And, yes, I can say that all in under a second. In the late 70s, it was a contest. I finally got banned from participating at my local McDonald's because I was getting free Big Macs for all my friends.

Oh, and you're still a FReeper, Idi.

I can say that in like 5 seconds. I memorized that stupid commercial when I was a kid.

Seriously, a minute? What was everyone in your locale a total dunce in the 70s?

34. You heard about the Sesame Street Bus, right?
The Sesame Street Bus driver made his daily rounds. First stop were two best friends named Patty, both of whom were overweight. Next came Ross, who went to Special Education. Then the bus picked up Lester Reese. Lester was a disgusting kid with bunyons, who was known to take off his shoes and play with them while they rode to school.

So the bus driver looks back and takes inventory. "Two obese Pattys, special Ross, and Lester Reese picking bunyons on a Sesame Street Bus."

10. That would get in the way of all the fat and sugar in the sandwich
I was just reading about how the bread on those sandwiches has a bunch of sugar in it. And, of course, the sauce is almost completely sugar and fat. Who knows how much of the beef patties is actually protein? I think a Big Mac has about 550 calories in it and very little nutritional value. Just fat, sugar, and salt. My personal record is three Big Macs in one sitting. I don't eat that stuff anymore, though.

45. It depends on texture of the burger.
If a burger has a special sauce on it already then adding a tomato makes it too mushy.

Catsup is the devil's own food. A slice of real tomato (or this time of year, those cluster tomatoes from a greenhouse in Madison or some other weird little Maine town) is perfect.

32. Tomatoes are seasonal.
Nowadays you can get any produce any time of the year thanks to global commerce, but that's a fairly recent development.

Tomatoes don't ship well either. You have to source them locally, which is anathema to McDonald's centralized distribution.

That's just a guess. I could be talking out my ass. :)

Even the Italians refused to cook them for sauces for many years.
