My pet rat died this morning =(
Edited on Wed May-27-09 08:00 AM by JesterCS
She had been sick for a few days, not eating, whiney, not moving alot. Last nite she wouldnt even move, but still had a heartbeat.

This morning though she was stiff as a board. =( sad she was only a year old. She was mean, bit me a few times, didnt like to be handled, but god I still miss her alot =(

Thats the 3rd pet this year we've had to put to sleep. =(

Here is a picture. She was so shy, she even hated the camera.

10. She's cute.
I once had a gerbil when I was a kid. His name was Sir Emmett Emerson the third. There was no first or second. I just wanted to name him that. He was leash trained and stayed in the shirt pocket of my flannel shirt most of the time I was home from school. I walked him some outdoors when it was warm outside. He was great.

They are smart critters. Did you know that some electrical contractors train rats to pull wire? The rats go in one end and bring the wire out the other end for them. I wish I could find that video. It was a great story. I think it was on 20/20 or 60 Minutes. It was on a few years ago. I was pretty amazed on the one hand but not overly surprised on the other. They can be taught tricks and everything.

Maybe if you give Lilbit extra attention right now, it'll help some for both of you.

We lost two fish yesterday. Fortunately the kids only had them for a week (goldfish) so weren't so attached.

Sorry about Twitch, JesterCS. I had gerbils as a kid and it hurts to lose a pet, no matter how small.

16. Oh, I am sorry to hear that
I have 4 rats myself at the moment. 2 are ill, but still moving around, eating, drinking and wanting to be held and petted. The other 2 are fine, thankfully. But our older whippet is sick - cancer in most of his major organs according to our vet. We will probably have to put him down in a week or two. Right now, he is not in pain, eating and playing some, but he is sleeping more and more. We lost our senior male greyhound in November, a rat in December and now the whippet. Not good for us either. If you can, get another rat as soon as you can to help heal the hole in your heart. They are wonderful pets.

17. I'm so sorry
One year? What is the average life span for a rat? Maybe it was some kind of congenital problem. Anyway, it hurts like hell to lose a pet much less three in one year. Take care!

As far as people who dismiss your loss, don't even give them a second thought. She was important to you, and that is what matters.
