Am I the only one who doesn't find Christopher Guest's movies
not that funny? I am referring more to his mockumentaries. I know they are find will dry humor. I just don't see how they can be that funny.

1. hmmm. I know every line to 'Waiting for Guffman'

I can quote that entire movie - no lie. Also 'Spinal Tap' - not technically HIS movie, I guess, but it's sheer genius either way.

I once broke up with a girl because she didn't 'get' his movies. Well, not the sole reason, but it was a reason.

I use them as a barometer of sorts...

2. Perhaps.
I think they're great, by and large. I love the way each character's every line reveals another level of neurosis.

5. While his movies and characters are hilarious, he seems very serious in real life.
When I saw him recently on the "Unwigged and Unplugged" tour, he very rarely smiled or laughed, while McKean and Shearer did so quite a bit. I've read interviews with him that confirmed this aspect of his personality.

6. The only movie of his that I didn't like was "A Mighty Wind"
I saw it with a bunch of other people old enough to remember the folkie era, and we found very little humor in it. Perhaps to someone who doesn't remember the era, it might seem funny in itself, but we didn't laugh much.

However, I LOVED "Best in Show" and "Waiting for Guffman." It's been years since I've seen "Spinal Tap," so perhaps it should join my Netflix queue.

7. Didn't care for "For Your Consideration" all that much,
but love the rest of his stuff. The people in his world are benignly loopy. Makes for fun movie watching.

10. I'm with you
Spinal Tap was classic (I know he wrote it with Reiner and McKean - Shearer too?) and the rest are just as you described. Maybe he's just run out of steam.
