Poll question: OK Folks! Champions League Final!!!! Barcelona - Manchester United!!
Edited on Wed May-27-09 02:34 PM by SKKY
Who will win and by what score? I've got 3-1 Barcelona with goals from Xavi Hernandez (2) and Henry (1). Rooney will get the lone ManU goal.

1. UP CELTIC!
Sorry I just learned about that a few weeks ago

I have watched most of the whole tournament

ManU is talented from top to bottom but Barca can score a ton of goals (Messi, Henri, etc.) but I think the difference is going to be Ronaldo-he has clearly been on a mission in the last few games. In the semi he just decided to he was going to score and hit a fantastic shot from 25 meters out or so.

I understand that this is pretty much his swan song at Man U. I read somewhere that he is going back to Carthage (if that is the name) saying his time at Man U and in England was done.

I am no fan of Man U I just think that Ronaldo will win it for the. Tevez is a little devil too.

Huge thread in LBN
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=3892180&mesg_id=3892180

"Militant Protestant supporters of a Scottish soccer team beat to death a Roman Catholic man in the latest sign of how sports rivalries inspire sectarian bloodshed in Northern Ireland, police and politicians said Monday.

Witnesses said more than 20 Protestant supporters of Glasgow Rangers, many of them wearing the team's blue-and-white jerseys and scarves, drove into a Catholic district of the town of Coleraine after Rangers clinched the Scottish Premier League championship Sunday.

Billy Leonard, a former policeman and politician from the Irish nationalist party Sinn Fein, said several carloads of anti-Catholic extremists came armed with clubs "and literally attacked the first person they came across."

Kevin McDaid, 49, was fatally bludgeoned while his wife, Evelyn, and a 46-year-old Catholic neighbor, Damien Fleming, were both injured. Fleming was reported in critical condition."

I tend to carry the self-loathing fan gene with me wherever I go (see avatar). I like Malaga in La Liga. Relegated in 2006 but they're back and in 8th. The teams I like tend to hover between 6-12 in the standings.

12. Can a free kick be "well-struck but high and wide", all at the same time?
I would think being both high and wide would preclude it from being "well-struck".

Yeah, I'm calling out Caroline Cheese.

in the little bit that I watch

When you don't have a lot of goals and continuous play you have to say something and with so few goals they can't demand absolutes.

72. Ten years ago Utd came back from a deficit to win it.
They don't seem up to that task today, thank goodness.

83. My final analysis...
Edited on Wed May-27-09 04:01 PM by SKKY
...Possession was only 53-47 in favor of Barcelona. It seemed much more than that.

1. Sir Alex was flat out coached by Guardiola today. His team was not prepared, and had no answer
what-so-ever for Barcelona.
2. Xavi and Iniesta are, by orders of magnitude, the best midfield tandem in the world.
3. Gerald Pique was absolutely COLOSSAL for Barcelona in defense. Easily his best performance to date.
4. Rooney was even less a factor in the 2nd half than in the first- hard to believe.
5. Where was Man United's midfield today? Did they miss the flight?

87. Definitely agree and will add another anomaly.
ManU looked like they had a good solid defensive line. I saw a block of white back there covering their goal, but it just wasn't enough. Where the hell was their midfield? Not that I really miss them, mind you.

88. I'll add one thing: did Ronaldo turn into uber-douche during the last half?
He's a nice cross between idiot and asshole, but looked like a spoiled 12 year old that, if he was going to lose, he was going to hurt someone doing it.

Did anyone see the final shots on goal numbers?

91. Shots on Goal favored Barcelona 7-2 or 8-2, depending on the outlet....
Edited on Wed May-27-09 04:09 PM by SKKY
...BBC had it 8-2. www.as.com and www.marca.es both have it 7-2.

89. +
Ronaldo tried to win the game himself in the first 10 minutes. Man never got any offense going because of it and when Barca scored they had to start from scratch.

The Barca captain (name?) played a great game-he set up the second goal. Henry was as ineffective as Rooney was.

Messi was Messi.

I don't blame you or any of their fans for booing that poor excuse for a performance.
