Finally watched "W" - one of the most depressing movies
I have ever seen.
Also looked up a Dallas newspaper article written by the reporter who asked Bush the school questions he couldn't answer when he ran for congress. He stated the movie is very like W's personality, most of it is right on accurate, and the scene with the press conference where he loses it all was word for word from the transcript of that actual conference...(I remember the "In history, we'll all be dead" quote from reading it at the time.)
The writer states Stone's "W" toned down Bush's active alcoholic years and was accurate on his religious grandiosity and the actions of his staff (especially Rove, the "genius".)

I found the movie impossible to stop watching, saddening and depressing, and I am so fucking glad that we won the Presidency and not McCain/Palin...

No more Republican Presidents, never again, ever....

1. The Bush's are a family of enabler's and drunks
Thieves and liars. That movie made me laugh in terror all the way through. Those scenes of George stuffing food in his mouth really got to me but the pretzel scene cracked me up. And that little piece of news about the pregnant girlfriend? Yipes.

2. Ironically I couldn't wait to turn it off
Especially when it got to the part of introducing Rove. In the movie no one took him serious and treated him like the annoying smart guy talking about 'metric' data and everyone dismissed except for 'W'. What a misrespresentation. His dad knew who Rove was longer before he ran for President. Also didn't like how the movie protrayed him as the 'cool' tough guy growing up.

I guess different tastes is my guess. I didn't like the movie and I love Oliver Stone.

3. Republicans? They'll be back
They never really go away. The Democrats have killed the Republicans three times in the last century--1932, 1974, and now the 2006/08 election cycles. Someone always pulls the stake out of their heart and they always manage to claw their way out of the coffin. Each time, we find a way to make the world a little fairer and each time they manage to toe their way back into power so they turn a profit off it and then screw the pooch somehow.

I didn't think the young George was cool at all - I thought he was a fucking alky spoiled no-brain brat who needed a good ass kicking and should never have had a responsible job.

It's really a shame he didn't choke to death on that pretzel.

6. It is a depressing satire. I never could have watched this prior to the election.
It is easier to appreciate now that we have a competent President in office.

Stone hit a home run, although I would give anything to see what he cut out. Hopefully a restored Director's Cut is on the way.
