Need advice on Windows
Hi all. I HATE windows XP but I have found out that somehow I ended up with a custom edition of Explorer that will NOT come off my computer and I am unable to view many things or download. I have spent hours on the phone with these guys trying to get it figured out so far no good. Anyway, I run Zone Alarm and Spy Bot. I am hoping these will protect me. I refuse to update my windows, I figure if they came out with something good we would not need to do this all the time and I do not trust them not to interfere. Now my friend sent me a warning that she got from Microsoft saying they are monitoring our internet use and if they find a computer that has not updated or is infected they will shut you down. Am I crazy? Has this always been the case? Anyway, mostly I am concerned about the worm, hoping I am protected. Does anyone know what the story is with Microsoft? I'm not liking this.

Does your friend have any idea how many copies & versions of microshit are being used world wide on the net?

If it sounds to good/bad to be true, it most likely is.

5. they can't
do that but the updates are, for the most part, GOOD things, not bad. There were a lot of security holes in XP. BTW I like XP.

2. Your Refuse to Update
Might I suggest you maybe shouldn't be using a computer.

Got some news for ya. ALL Operating Systems since the dawn of time have been patched. And they are very, very complicated things. So I would suggest you wise up and start patching your computer real quick.

And yes, that was a bit of hyperbole but really all modern OSs, Mac, MS, Solaris, Linux are subject to patching. That's just the way it is.

4. My, aren't you helpful today?
some of us do other things in our lives and are not really savy to the workings of these computers. I was asking a question in a place I felt relatively safe to be stupid in but I guess that was the wrong thing to do. I never have ever been asked to update my computer and I am not really knowledgable about it but have been using one in my stupid manner for a long time. So, have a nice day.
