Do drivers become complete morons when it rains where you live?
Edited on Sat Jul-18-09 03:05 PM by rcrush
It rained yesterday for about an hour and during that time I saw about 20 fenderbenders while I was driving around. Some street lights went out on a street for about 5 miles or so. Took 1 an hour to get through all that traffic because theres always some people who cant figure out a 4 way stop when the traffic lights are out.

Freakin crazy man

1. Yes, I live in the Atlanta area and the drivers are morons
anyway. But when it rains, no one seems to know how to drive. That's not to mention when we get the rare snowfall. Then they are complete idiots.

2. It's like the monkeys looking at the fuckin' monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Really.

I don't care how sunny California is. There are thousands of people here who couldn't find their ass with a funnel and a SHERPA.

3. Lots of accidents in rain are caused by tires
Keep good tires on your car, keep them properly inflated, and slow the fuck down when the roads are wet. Many people can't even figure out one of those 3 things and that's why they find themselves in accidents when it rains.

4. YES.
I live in the DC Metro area and about half of the drivers here don't actually live here, so they handle twists and turns when it rains as if they were driving on a sheet of ice.

5. That's so sadly true -
the drivers here are just bad. When it rains, it might as well be snowing, or there might as well be a layer of glare ice, because they drive the same way - stupidly................................

6. Most of the drivers around here are already morons,
but their moronity level goes up significantly with the first few drops of rain. And when it snows... indescribable.

7. Fortunately, a large share of DC drivers stay home when it snows.
This place is so wimpy that if two inches of snow are expected the next day - even if the snow hasn't started falling yet - they'll announce school closing that night. People often stay home to save on day care. I find snow driving here much easier than rain driving because there is so much less traffic.

8. It's "morans", and yes
the road system here is so close to capacity that a passing shower can bring all of downtown to a midtown Manhattan-style screeching halt.

Good thing those only happen on days that end in a 'y'... :eyes:

9. It don't take much
In New England, we kinda do OK in the rain, and we get snow after the first coupla days of Crash-up Derby - but show us a cop car at the wrong time, and we f'n lose it!

10. Not so much here, but when I drove to my brother's place for the 4th of july weekend...
You'd think people in big honkin' SUVs who deal with winter snow and steep hills every year would know how to drive in mild rain. Apparently not.

14. My office is by a fire department. When it rains, the fire trucks go out
many many times a day. Yes, some drivers get down right stupid when it rains.

15. Oh yeah.
And since it doesn't rain often (southern Nevada) the oil and gunk build up on the road and when it does rain it brings all that stuff up and VOILA! sort of like driving on black ice. Not a pretty sight, most who have lived here really try to avoid driving on newly wet roads.

17. The moron drivers around here (So Cal suburbia)
don't need rain to speed, tailgate, make dangerous lane changes, etc. They are all-weather morons.

18. Not really
a lot of them are morons anyway, but it rains a lot here, so they're used to it, and it doesn't seem to make much difference. Let the ice and snow come though, and they go into moron overdrive. They'll pass you on an icy freeway doing 75, and then you'll pass them further up the road, parked backwards on top of the median...

19. When it snows, too....we get some snow every winter, and people ought to
be somewhat accustomed to driving in it, but EVERY winter you will find people driving way too fast and climbing right up your ass for the first few snows of the year.

No accounting for stupid.

Nobody knows what to do when the white flakes start a fallin'.

22. there are a few problems when it rains
but the first few snows of the season are such a cluster. not only do the natives seem to forget how to drive in the snow, we're a college town and there are kids from places that never see snow, so i usually try to stay off the roads as much as possible.

24. oh yes. We go through long periods w/ no rain so everyone gets crazy
when it does rain.

However that is nothing compared to a heavy frost, sleet or snow.
