:P 40% Bran Flakes do the job. :hurts:

The only kids' cereal I ever eat anymore, and it's rare - are the chocolate ones like Cocoa Puffs, Count Chocula, etc. I do NOT need the sugar, LOL. Plus, I need all my teeth. :D

Should have had them on the poll.

Try Malt-O-Meal brands. They are comparable to the major brands, and half the price/double the volume. Come in resealable plastic bags.

17. "Because people will pay it?" is the universal answer to these sorts of questions.
Why is pasta expensive? For a one-time investment of $30 and 5 minutes worth of effort per batch you can have pasta superior to anything sold in the supermarket for literally $0.15/lb. The average American cooks and consumes more than 40lbs. of pasta a year at an average of $1/lb.

Why are soda and soft drinks so expensive? I can buy a bottle of Kola syrup (Good for about 5 gal. of soda) for $2 and seltzer water for less than $0.20/L. and make my own cola. I can buy lemon juice for $1.29/bottle and 5lbs. of sugar for a few bucks and make lemonade on the cheap. A box of teabags is under a dollar. On the other hand, soda is around $1.79 a 2L bottle locally and Country Time Lemonade Mix and 4C iced-tea mix are $6 each for a can yielding 28-quarts.

Hummus costs about $3-4/6oz. tub to purchase and about $0.50/lb. to make. Tapenade is just as inflated in price vs. cost. Pasta sauce? I can buy a can of stewed tomatoes 2 for $1 and reduce it myself...it's not like I don't already have the spices to make sauce, I have to doctor the jarred crap anyways to be palatable.

People have to pay these prices for simple-to-make food-stuffs because we "culturally-forgot" how to make simple staple foods once we could buy them at the supermarket. Ironic...if the average American learned how to make the simple foods they eat most from scratch, they could cut their food budget by 75% and eat better than they do now.

30. I guess I'm pathetic.
I really don't care for the sugar rush, so I avoid that stuff. I like (... gasp ...) the little spoon-sized shredded wheat thingies and, goddess help me, Grape Nuts. Which I call grape's nuts. At the same time. As in, in the same bowl.

I know, I know. I am not worthy to be allowed to post on this esteemed forum. I suck. And that's the end of it.

50. This reminds me of a story.
Years ago when my mother fractured her tibia and was relatively immobile, I made sure she had breakfast every day. When she was ready for breakfast on the first morning, she asked me to bring her coffee and Cheerios in to the family room so she could eat while she played her video games. She thanked me, and took a spoonful of Cheerios. She immediately made that "yuck" face and said, "You didn't put any sugar on this!"

So I brought the sugar bowl in and loaded up the spoon. "Wait," she said, "not that much!"

"Oh," I replied, "so you just want a soupçon of sugar?"

She chuckled and asked me what a soupçon was. I explained it to her, and every day after that she would always ask for her coffee and her soupçon when she was ready for breakfast.

As for me, I actually like Cheerios without any sugar! :P

47. I'm really weird, but I like bran. Plain bran.
Not raisin bran, but bran with nothing added.

Why? I think because it reminds me of when I was a kid and went to my grandmother's house, and the only cereal she had was bran. So I'd have it, and I always like by the end how it turned to a grainy mush.

I know, that's very strange, but I like it for nostalgia's sake.

48. When I was a kid in the 60s, I used to go thru a box of cereal every other day!
I ate 3 regular meals, and about 6 bowls of cereal in between those meals! And I was a skinny beanpole, since I was rapidly growing to my full height of 6'1" (I'm a chick, BTW). I'm sure that was fed by boxes of Fruit Loops, Trix, Cocoa Puffs, Lucky Charms, et al. Then when I was 15, Cap'n Crunch Peanut Butter hit the stores. I mixed it with Cocoa Puffs and was in hog heaven!

My mother couldn't figure out why 1) I never wanted dessert or sweet stuff. 2) I was totally hyper-active all through school.

Nowadays, at age 54, I don't eat much milled flour or processed carbohydrates. Brekkie is fruit, yoghurt and nuts. Lunch is a protein bar. Snack is a smoothie. Dinner is a salad.

I leave the sugar high and stuff to you young thangs now!
