1. Well, to quote my baby:
lima beans are "Satan's Nose Nuggets". I absolutely agree with this.

Is this some freedom of religion loophole?

28. So are their Maui Onion and Garlic almonds
The stores around here stopped carrying them, which I don't understand. They're the best of the lot, IMO. I could eat the whole can in a sitting if left to it. I guess it's a good thing for my waistline that I can't find them here.

BTW, Target's "Archer Farms" sells a balsamic vinegar almond that's also quite nice.

Without the red dye, it DOES look good. And, the frosting IS devilishly good. I just read your post wrong, and I can't get past that whole bottle of red dye thing... Sorry.

45. Red velvet cakes were originally what would be called a dutch chocolate cake -
I have a recipe from G-Grandma where she uses "sweet vinegar" (I'm guessing a malt or red grape vinegar?) and buttermilk, which in her words "turned the coco scarlet and sweet". The frosting was more of a fondant than the normal "cream cheese" or butter cream type. (Gag, I hate butter-cream frosting)
I remember when she or Grandma made it, it was very dense, almost pound cake, and it wasn't bright red; more of a chestnut red, and had a slight berry-red grape note to the chocolate. Neither ladies used food dye in the cake.(They saved their food dye for candies and frostings...)
