Darned camera. It's not taking clear pics consistently and half of them are pink or striped for some reason. :(

And the scariest pic of the weekend, when I caught him hanging over the end of the above pier in order to get this shot. Picture me grabbing on to the back of his jacket to help him balance and not flip into the water. :eyes:

More of his pics are here: http://s198.photobucket.com/albums/aa10/CurvyNovels/Bpics/?start=all

1. This desert dweller thanks you for pics of autumn and water.
...and I'm glad your little boy didn't fall in the water. :)

3. Thanks. :^) It was all of 40 degrees out of the water. I can only imagine what the water itself was.

I can see why he wanted the shot. I like the old lobster pot and rosehip shots too!

4. For some reason photobucket changed it into a vertical shot. I was pleasantly surprised
to even see any rose blossoms left. Nothing smells as lovely as salt air and rugosa roses, eh? :D

24. "Nothing smells as lovely as salt air and rugosa roses"
I was enjoying your son's photographs a couple of hours ago and, before I read the replies, said to my husband, "Oh, I love these Maine pictures. I can just smell the air!"
My family rented a cottage on an island in Maine for a week or two each summer when I was 1 to 8 years old so it's only natural that the Maine coast is one of my favorite places. :)
Please tell your son we really like his photographs!

25. I sure will tell him. I think he is old enough to understand that it
really means something if his pictures can help someone remember how the air smells here. :)

Have you been back since childhood? It's changed in a lot of places, but there are plenty of places that still feel like old Maine.

27. I'd love to go to Maine every year!
I've been back about each decade. My husband, son, and I went 11 years ago, but haven't been since.
This place sure seemed like old times! -http://www.moodysdiner.com/diner.html

34. Heh. Moody's Diner always makes me think of the old story where
Mother and Father are out to dinner, and a man at the counter lets a real good one rip. So Father gets up and demands to know, "How dare you fart before my wife?!" To which the man replies, "If I'da knowed it was her turn, I'da let her go first."

Or something like that. :P

7. What brand camera is it? Canon Powershot perhaps?
My camera started doing the pink strippey thing to. Even
though it was out of warranty Canon fixed it for free.
Turns out many had CCD problems so they fixed them for free.

9. Yes, an A80. Kiddo wants a newer one since this old one is only a 4 megapixel. That is
awesome of Canon, though, to fix them up even after warranty. (We're a Canon family. I am sure the kiddo's next one will be another little Canon like the one he has now, but better resolution.)

it away to some budding photographer.

13. I will see if we can do that, since it could be awhile before we get him a new one. Thanks for
the link and the compliments. :) He's got a good gut instinct. I've helped him crop a few shots (like the vertical of the fence and field which had a paved road and a car with headlights coming at him on the far right side) but an awful lot of the good ones don't need any help at all.

21. Thanks, Peggy. I dunno how he comes up with these ideas. Who thinks, "Hey, I need to run down
to the end of this pier as fast as I can go and take a picture underneath of it!"?? LOL But that's what makes an artist, I guess. The ability to see things in a way that others don't.

I need to bring my video camera with me next time we go out on an excursion. You really have to see this guy's crazy energy. Half the time he doesn't finish taking the shots he meant to take because something caught his eye elsewhere. ZOOM! LOL

33. Thanks, Bertha :^) We're working on getting him the next step up from what he has now. We offered
him the use of the smaller of the digital SLRs we have here but his hands are still little (he's a bit small for his age), and he likes the freedom to run from spot to spot that the smaller camera gives him. And I do mean run. I wish I had a tenth of his energy (and calorie burning ability!) LOL

The others remind me of our trip to Maine last year and the house we rented in Warren right on the St. George's river.

Just gorgeous - the kid has an eye!

37. Yeah, that tint thing is the issue we are having with the camera, but at least in these
two pics it's not neon and almost making the pic look like a negative. :)

You'll have to come back up here again sometime. What season did you visit last time?

38. We were there during the week you had a Nor'easter AND hurricane
Last week of September, first week of October last year - right before the election. Leaves just starting to turn, rain every day. But we still loved Maine.

We really liked Rockland, which was a great launching point - we could drive up the coast to Blue Hill and all the way to Bar Harbor, and down the coast as far as Boothbay. Didn't get inland at all, though.

Here's the thing that surprised us: everyone was SO NICE. I interview people for a living (we pay them to talk to us) and I've had a lot of bad experiences interviewing people in Boston, and other areas in New England, so I was braced for the stereotypical taciturn Yankee that I HAVE talked to before (that "yup" and "nope" stuff). But DAMN, everyone from the counter girls at Red's Eats to the checkers at the grocery store, waiters, waitresses, boat crews, everyone was so nice, and so sincerely friendly. Not at all what we expected.

We definitely want to come back and see the state with the sun out, though.

As for the camera, the tinting is a pretty neat effect with the scenic stuff. Maybe you should keep it just for that and use the new one for everything else.

39. Yeah, there are definitely differences in New England regions. I think maybe part of it
is that even our city folk are practically country folk because our towns aren't very big. LOL

Plenty of taciturn people around though, but I would say they are more so with each other over their own disagreements than with strangers with whom they have no real issue. (Aside from the general nuisances of people from "away" leading to a lack of parking spaces or the jacking up of real estate prices.)

Glad you saw a fair bit of the coast, which is obviously where I live. :) But do try to get up to Baxter State Park some day. The mountains are beautiful and wildlife is interesting. (Supposedly we have moose in my area but I have only ever seen them up there.)

43. Yeah, I noticed that too in this series. I think it's the lack of "rugged coastline" people
usually associate with the Downeast area. But the sea grass and marshes are very pretty too. :)
