1. Mine shut off water on a Saturday afternoon
I was in the middle of a shower. I called the office & asked about it & when they got huffy with me, I put on my bathing suit & went to the pool to rinse off.

3. They probably presume...
...that most people have left for the day (for work) and won't be using it. Sucks for you though or others who are at home at that time.

5. What's the problem?
Go, don't flush, and close the lid.

You'd have a much harder time coming up with a work around for taking a shower.

8. For just one day?
Our landlords turned off the water to the complex for three fucking days last year. Get yourself a bucket of water and flush your shit down the old fashioned way. Big baby. :P

9. I worked as a handyman for a horrible university slumlord like that.
He tried to rent only to women, preferably good looking women because he liked to leer at them. He wasn't the one who did the renting or the hiring, however. He had his poor suffering wife do that because nobody with any sense would sign a lease or work for such a lowlife.

One Friday the building's big commercial sized water heater started leaking. Rather than pay a plumber extra to fix it promptly, he told me to shut it off and bypass it so he could put off repairing it until Monday. Then he vanished for a few days leaving me to tell everyone what an asshole he was. But they already knew that.

11. Well in the US
I think that is technically illegal. Landlords are required to provide running water. I rented from a similar asshole while in college. Guy was a retired doctor who had a million campus rentals that were all falling down and couldn't pass county codes. He drove around in a 1948 something or other and dressed like a homeless guy but he was a fucking millionaire.

Here in Germany, that is par for the course. Takes at least 5 or 6 months to build a fucking house around here so 3 days to replace the water heater was a mother fucking miracle.

12. I don't know how anything gets done in Germany...
I've heard everything is complicated by inspections and regulations.

In my small California city there are at least a dozen 24/7 plumbing contractors. Many promise to be at your home or business in less than an hour after you call with no additional charges over their day rates. Nevertheless this is still is too expensive for an asshole landlord. It's no big deal if the tenants don't have hot water for a few days if there's some slight chance the job can be done cheaper Monday or Tuesday.

10. you could get two poops. here is how.
After the water is off, you get one poop in the toilet with a regular flush.
If you have to poop after that, poop down the shower drain and use the clear water in the toilet bowl (from the previous flush) to work it all down.

problem solved.
discuss.
