Denver police crush sex offender's car
DENVER (AP) - A man who received a 90-day jail sentence after pleading guilty to attempting to sexually assault a child in Denver is losing his car too.

Denver police crushed the vehicle of 37-year-old Balazs Toth on Tuesday, saying it's a public nuisance.

Toth was accused of going online to try to lure a child to a parking lot for sex in December. The former Roman Catholic school teacher was sentenced in June to jail and five years of sex offender probation after pleading guilty to criminal attempt to commit sexual assault on a child.

1. They destroyed his car?
:wtf:

So they just fined him the value of his car?

So he just goes and buys another?

3. Were his testicles in the car at the time?
Otherwise, what exactly was the point.

4. That'll teach the car!
Why not give it to someone who could, you know, use a car and stuff?

5. In Florida, anything used in the commission of a felony can be siezed.
IIRC. Not a bad rule. Although selling it might have been a better idea than crushing it. Maybe they just wanted to send a message.

7. In the UK they crush your car if you drive it uninsured.
Just drive by a camera of some sort, and thanks to automatic number plate recognition technology, it gets scanned. If "the system" detects you're driving without insurance, you start the mechanism that may well result in the destruction of your vehicle. Of course if it had any value it would be auctioned, but it's more economical to crush a 1984 Ford Escort that has 250,000+ miles on the clock than to try and sell it or even donate it (yes, I tried to donate said above vehicle, couldn't give it away... had to scrap it).

Mark.
