Beethoven's 9th - Molto Vivace - Predicts Punk

Seriously - follow me here...

There is a refrain that is is joined with tympani - only during one refrain of this motif the percussionist is banging away strongly, with a dare I say, punk-esque rhythm. Its one of the more moving parts of the 9th IMO, and I think it predicts punk rock.
