4. Why are you having the surgery?
What is involved? If you don't get to read and answer this question before I go to bed, please know that I'll say a prayer (or two or three or a thousand) for you.

5. I have, but not for the same problem
I had a tumor removed that was wedged between the inner ear and the brain. But I can try to answer questions if you have them.

6. No, I haven't but something tells me
that if the doctors ever tried to remove the dirty from my mind, there would be nothing left. :P

I hope your surgery is successful and you have a quick, painless recovery.

7. I haven't either
. . but I saw one in nursing school. It was very humbling, the brain is such an incredible part of us. The patient I saw in surgery did very well afterward, best wishes to you.

8. Not me, my oldest sister
She had the same kind of cancer Ted Kennedy had. Diagnosed in 1992. Because her doctoral thesis was on the brain and was published as a reference book, she had contacts with many neurologists and neurosurgeons. They operated on her twice. The first time was very successful - removed the bulk of the tumor but did not damage her functioning seriously. She had to relearn a few things she had lost because of the cancer and the pressure from the grapefruit sized tumor.

If it had been a benign or non-invasive tumor, she would have been in good shape, but that kind of cancer is very invasive and aggressive. After a year of nearly normal life following the first surgery, the tumor had grown back and the second time the surgeons tried to operate, they found that the tumor was just too integrated into her brain. I don't think they even tried to take much of it out. She quickly lost her speech, then some motor function and spent the last three months of her life in a nursing home.

The last day I was able to talk to her was the day the Waco compound burned. We talked about the people who lost their lives there.

Neurosurgeons tend to be very good - I hope your surgery turns out good.
