I'm digging that they are doing the pop-up-video thing for the previous weeks show, I'm not sharp enough to catch everything. I also like the reminders of things from seasons past :D

Sdaly, the only happy ending I was absolutely sure had to happen is now probably not going to happen.

Let's think about what they all do... Ben lies, Kate runs, Sawyer self-sacrifices, Jin runs around looking for his wife, Jack consistantly makes the wrong decision every damn time... I wonder if there's a clue in all that about how it all ends. This story is supposedly character driven after all.

31. All men, assuming of course
Jacob - male. MIB - male. Ben & Charles - male. The Jack-Locke-Sawyer power struggle was all male. Flight 815 was basically a plane full of Abercrombie models. The island demands male energy to cling to it. Very ancient vibe I get from that. No wonder women can't have babies on the island--the island hates women because its jealous of their life-giving abilities.

Richard fits in there too. He's like a Gunga Din or something...

33. What Jacob gave them.
He gave Locke life. He gave Kate a lunchbox, Hurley a guitar case with an ankh in it, Sawyer a pen, Jin & Sun a blessing, the Tin Man a heart, Sayyid a death, Jack a candy bar, and Dorothy a way home.

I wonder if there's a pattern to be seen in there. This is the biggest dumpload of clues since Richard showed child Locke the knife, compass, baseball glove, book of laws, and one other thing. Hmmm.

Time for my head to spin.

34. NotLocke said that Jacob shows up when you're most vulnerable, etc
But that doesn't seem to fit in with Jin: he showed up on Jin's wedding day, which is a joyous celebration. And when Hurley left prison, it wasn't as vulnerable as, say, when he was in the institution. So I think NotLocke is still making shit up and manipulating Sawyer. But to what end?

55. Jacob is dead, but I think the question is who technically killed him.
It's true that Ben stabbed Jacob, but it did seem like Jacob was technically still alive when fake Locke kicked him into the fire which would mean fake Locke didn't play by the rules.

I have no idea what the implications of this is though.

Man, this show just drove me nuts. I was hooked for a couple years. Then it went way beyond the bend. Just making up the story line weekly, so I quit watching.

I have been recording this last final season to see how it ends. But I really don't care so much anymore. I have not watched one show this season. They just sit there taking up space on the DVR. Someone wake me when it's over.

This should have been a 1 or 2 season show, but just like the hit show Prison Break, they just milk a story-line to death!

41. I just love how, when you think about it, they were setting this up all along, from season one
Edited on Wed Feb-17-10 05:39 AM by Bucky

You have Dharmaville, literally "the city of the Law", intruding into nature, the Island, which you can't escape. But behind that conflict, there's this struggle between a force of light and a force of dark--one is structure and the other is action (just like in Paradise Lost) but where the one who is action actually functions as a sort of security system for the whole location (just like the actions of nature often protect the world from the laws of man).

So there's this truce between Nature and the Law, a social contract as someone might have called it. It's even signed by a guy named Horace Goodspeed--a name that sounds like it came out of Plymouth colony in the early 1600s, which is a prime example of another time law and nature lived and fought right next to each other in such close proximity.

Damn, I love a good mystery!

I honestly don't think LOST would be as good without them.

The side flashes this season are showing an alternative timeline from what I understand. So what we're seeing off the island this season is the reality of the characters if they had never been on the island in the first place.

The time line changes at the point the bomb goes off, the 70's and at that point Child Ben was still on the island recovering from Sayid shooting him.

52. but do we have actual proof of that?
All we really know is that the island is under water with the statue foot and the Dharma camp on it. We don't actually know exactly when the alt timeline begins. When the bomb did go off, the characters on the island who were stuck in 1977 suddenly jumped to the present.

But it is also true that they could swerve us and make pretty much any action performed in the past the one that created the new time line.

63. I made the same assumption too until I read this theory:
the bomb explosion PREVENTED the Island from sinking, and that the "Alternate Timeline" is the one in which the bomb NEVER went off, and at some point along the line the consequences of the Incident occurring, without Jughead being there to negate its energy, included the sinking of the entire Island.

I have to admit, this theory is a fun one.

67. We dont; know what the nuke really did to the timeline and "when" it did to the timeline.
The nuke was detonated when Ben was (presumably) on the the island. (they did evacuate people--he had been claimed in some way, it may allowed him to come back.) --but arguably, we don;t know if the timeline was affected in 1977 on or if it was affected from 1977 in both directions.

68. Something to think about: (spoilers)
John Locke tried to go on the walkabout as a result of Matthew Abaddon suggesting it. In the "new" reality, Locke tried it again. Clearly he had an accident, and likely Matthew Abaddon was an attendant for him--meaning that either Widmore is still involved, or with or without Widmore, Matthew Abaddon gets people to where they need to go.

This makes me think that the "new" reality involves a conscious choice of the "candidates" to return in the new timeline and that we have not seen the last of Matthew Abaddon.

69. This episode confirms my theory last week that the island was set up to be a prison.
Jacob was in charge of making sure that Smokey/Man in Black could not leave.

Jacob in Hebrew : Ya`aqob or Ya`aqov, meaning "heel-catcher" or "leg-puller". from עקב‎, `aqab or `aqav, "seize by the heel", "circumvent", "restrain"

It's becoming clear that Jacob pulled the names on the wall to the island because he needed someone to replace him in this task.

I don't think the Man in Black is Esau, Jacob's twin brother, but I do think he is a demon, or even the fallen angel Satan.
