Albq & Santa Fe area DUers: benefit show and jam this Sun. for a local musician with cancer
Edited on Wed Feb-17-10 12:45 PM by abq e streeter
(this is a copy of the email flyer I received for the benefit show for great local drummer Jim Magnarella)

Hello, everyone,
Many of the best bands and musicians in New Mexico are coming together this Sunday, Feb. 21st to Jam for Jim. He's got cancer and we're trying to help him out with his bills, and also raise his spirits! You've probably heard him play recently with our band, Trio Soul.

Besides the fabulous day of music, we've got some really great raffle items (including a $1500 guitar donated from Grandma's!), door prizes, and food. Read the following to find out more about this benefit.

Lineup time we're shooting for right now(!):
3:00 – 4:00 – Magnarella's Drum Shop Studio Teachers & their bands, including Arnold Bodmer and Sharon Eldridge
4:15 – 5:30 – Combo Special AND Cadillac Bob & the Rhinestones & JAM
5:45 – 6:30 – Deteriorators JAM
6:45 – 7:45 – Trio Soul & JAM
8:00 – 9:15 – Albuquerque Blues Connection AND The Hounds, RAFFLE & JAM
9:30 – 11:00 – Chris Dracup Trio AND Soul Kitchen, RAFFLE & JAM

Please email me or Steve Whitman (stwhitman@msn.com) for more information. And please forward this on to your friends, neighbors and email lists.

It's going to be a very, very good day! We hope to see you there!

Music Lineup

With Emcee:
Mr. Hot Lix—Charlie Z.

New Mexico's finest musicians are coming together to play a big benefit for one of our favorite drummers: Jim Magnarella. He's facing lots of medical bills, and we want to help him reduce (if not eliminate) them! Jim's one of our favorites, not just because he lays down a serious groove for most any style of music, but also because he's a very cool guy. You may have heard him play somewhere in New Mexico or Colorado with The Chris Dracup Trio, The Albuquerque Blues Connection, The Hounds or Trio Soul. Jim also teaches music at East Mountain High School, as well as private drum lessons at his recently-opened music store: Magnarella's Drum Shop at 8311 Menaul NE. (Yeah, he is very busy besides being so cool, and warm-hearted!) The musicians of New Mexico all invite you to come and help us make this event a big success!

Good Eats, Meats and Treats

As part of the day's events, Ethan Diness--whose company "A Second Meal" caters many of the private functions that we play--will be offering some of his really yummy dishes so we all can rejuvenate our dancing feet and enjoy this full day of music without missing a beat!

Come and enjoy the good eats prepared by Ethan Diness' skilled culinaries, the Mule Kickin' Beer-B-Q Krewe, who are gladly donating their time, talents, and efforts to this worthy cause.

Raffle & Door Prizes

Some very kind and generous people and businesses have donated several fine items to to be raffled and given as door prizes at the event, such as gift certificates for restaurants, nail and hair salons, music stores, portrait sittings, concert tickets and much, much more.

How can you help?

Come to the event and bring 20 of your closest friends!

We know that you like to listen and dance to the best live music New Mexico has to offer.
On this one day: February 21, at this one location: Low Spirits @ 2823 2nd NW, you'll be able to hear many of your favorite bands, besides helping out our dear friend. So, we're looking forward to seeing you there!

1. P.S.---if any Duers DO attend, I'd be honored to meet you

I don't know yet if I'll be participating in the jams, having just gotten stitches out of my gums, and may or may not be ready to sing/play sax or harmonica by Sunday, but if you ask almost any of the musicians ( after the first group anyway) if Ron the sax and harp player is there, they'd be able to point you towards me.

2. probably obvious, but just to make sure--that address for Low Spirits IS in Albuquerque
and also wanted to give this one more kick to the top so that local DUers who log on in the evening will see this... Would appreciate any kicks from others who view this too. Thanks on behalf of Jim and everyone else who has to worry about going broke just to try to save their own life.

3. I wish I could come
Sounds like a great time for a great cause, it's fantastic that you all are doing that.

I have a benefit to play sunday for a fellow musician who was in a car wreck, we're going to try and help him with medical bills. Been playing a whole bunch of benefits lately, we've lost quite a few of us and have a few of our music community in the hospital right now. We always come together to help them out.
:hi:
