She should just dress normally. She looks fine as she is.

1. Talented and attractive?
Those get you nowhere these days. Gotta have a gimmick and kiss the right ass.

6. True. If you're cute and not talented, they just use auto-tune...
then as Alicia Keyes (oddly enough) and Taylor Swift learned the hard way, you better be careful when you are expected to show up and sing. Even Whitney Houston stank out loud on the Today Show.

I'm not saying any of the above aren't talented, but they've got some serious issues when it comes to singing live.

8. It took me years to get my ear to tell me my mouth was singing off key...
But I won't ever care when I sing live now...

People who aren't trained have to have assistance when singing...

2. True.
I hope she doesn't flameout with all this nonsense in the scandal sheets.

7. It seems to come with the turf of being a singer...
sad but true. It's astonishing what the 'red tops' in Britain print.

4. She's wearing full makeup in that video
It's not the flashy makeup and wild hair she wears in her Lady Gaga role, but she has green shadow, blush and lipstick on. Look a little closer.

9. i don't think she is trying to look hot or more attractive by putting on the makeup
i think she just sees that as being herself.

11. Sad that so many women think of make up as part of their identity. nt

10. Yes, but on the flipside, the fact that she's so (*&%ing weird on stage and screen
means that if she wants to disappear and be ignored by the paparazzi, she is one of the few stars who can. All she has to do is slip out of the crazy Lady Gaga persona and viola! A large violin.

... um... I mean, voila, normal person. :)

12. Kind of like Elvira or a voice for the Simpsons. Great way to be famous!

13. I don't think she wants to be just another pop idol..
She wants to put on a performance and transform into something else onstage.

16. Maybe it's the "John Cougar" scenario...
Edited on Tue Feb-23-10 03:11 PM by gmoney
She adopts a persona to get the contract and the first album, but will then morph back into her real self over the course of the next couple rekkids?

Or for her next single, she'll cover "Destination Unknown"

Here's another video from a live show when she was still Stefani Germanotta... normal and cute, but I can see why this wouldn't hyped to sell a zillion copies.

And why not... a great shot of her and Kanye West by David LaChappelle

14. It's not about looks, it's about marketing.
She's a talented singer, songwriter, piano player. She's highly intelligent. Just like hundreds of other people trying to make it in the entertainment industry. So she develops an image, just life every one of the few other people who actually do make in the entertainment industry.

Watch her a bit. She's very interesting. She dresses like the sex kitten acts, but she doesn't perform like them. There's a sharp intelligence in her eyes, rather than a come-hither pouty look. Her songs are usually pretty smart, too.

15. I'm starting to like her a lot
The video for "Bad Romance" kept being on about the time I was waking up in the mornings, so I listened to some of her other stuff.

Some of it is pretty good!

18. She and her handlers are hoping she will be another "Bowie success story"...
someone that is written off as a gimmicky attention freak who defies expectations and becomes an enduring artist. I don't think it will work; she doesn't seem to possess the talent or insight of Bowie. And also, these are different times.
