Evgeni Plushenko. Russian Douchebag.
Apparently he's not finished bitching and whining about coming in second to American Evan Lysacek in men's figure skating.

He's posted on his website that his Silver medal in the Vancouver Olympics is really a "platinum" medal.

1. I got a kick out of his sex bomb performance
but claiming a "platinum" definitely puts him in an assholish light. Fucker needs a new haircut too.

2. Reminds me of how Buzz Aldrin used to feel bad...
...about being the second man to walk on the moon. How many people even get to compete in the Olymics? Many of them don't even quality. Yet they go home proud that they got to be in the Olympics. And this guy is bitching about a silver medal, something that most of us will never get a chance at achieving. Sorry, but Lysacek just gave a better performance overall. It's not like that Canadian couple who was knocked down to silver for political reasons eight years ago.

Maybe they'll play the theme from Hawaii Five-O on the podium...

5. This thread is pretty revolting, actually.

He should've won gold, period. This is not a secret to anyone who knows anything about the sport.

13. Whatever.
As Evan's mom said, you shouldn't win gold when ALL you can do is the quad. He got the silver. Most people would be content with that. He's not, and he's been demeaning Evan Lysacek ever since. That makes him a huge douchebag. Gracious loser, he is not.

And I'm not sure what experts you've been listening to, but I haven't heard anyone without a personal stake in this say it wasn't a legitimate loss.

17. Like hell. His landings were shaky and his footwork was mediocre.
Doing a quad doesn't mean crap if you don't do anything else particularly well.

24. That was my perception too.
The quad was impressive, but the rest of it could have been done by any other skater on the ice that day. EL was very consistent and his moves looked like part of a continuous routine rather than a series of elements. EP was awesome in '06 and he was pretty damn good this year too. Just not as good as EL.

20. "The night they killed figure skating":
This commentary is written by Elvis Stojko, a three-time world champion figure skater and two-time Olympic silver medalist for Canada, and is worth reading in its entirety:

http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/vancouver/figure_skating/news?slug=es-thoughts021810&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

Some excerpts:

The night they killed figure skating

Sorry, Evan Lysacek.

You’re a great skater and all.

But that wasn’t Olympic champion material.

In Thursday night’s men’s free skate, Lysacek skated slow and his jumps weren’t close to the technical ability of defending Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko.

-snip-

But the judges’ scoring was ridiculous.

Because of it, the sport took a step backward. Brian Boitano did the same thing, technically, in 1988. There are junior skaters who can skate that same program.

And the judges’ scoring probably killed figure skating because kids now are going to see this and say, “Oh, I don’t need a quad. I can just do great footwork for presentation marks and do a couple of nice spins and make it to Olympic champion.” With that type of scoring, you don’t have to risk it. You can play it safe and win gold.

In what other sports do you have to hold back in order to win?

The International Skating Union has taken the risk out of figure skating and it makes me sick.

If Plushenko had made some mistakes, then sure, maybe Lysacek deserves gold. But when you take the risk out of skaters’ programs, it doesn’t compute to me.

And it’s not a personal thing. I like Evan. But when you compare performances and have an outcome like this, the sport is going backward. And it hurts me to say it because I love this sport. But the judges made a mockery of it by giving Lysacek the gold.

-snip-

I'm not expressing my opinion when I say that Plushenko should've won gold (I haven't even watched the performances), I'm just saying that it seems to be the consensus opinion; for example:

http://media-newswire.com/release_1112835.html

(Media-Newswire.com) - The Olympics Men's Figure Skating finals has viewers stunned due to the win by Evan Lysacek. The win was surprising over the the runner up, Evgeni Plushenko who performed a routine with much more difficulty than Lysacek.

Lysacek was first of the final group to skate and was able to pull off an almost flawless routing but deemeded 'safe' by skating experts. Lysacek did not attempt the difficult quad jump that Evgeni Plushenko did.

Plushenko put on a dazzling routine with several extreme jumps and thought he would be far ahead on the judge's scorecards.

Japan's Daisuke Takahashi placed third in the men's figure skating competition to grab a bronze medal.

Lysacek was the first U.S. gold medal winner in 22 years for the Men's figure skating competition.

I'm not even going to go into an issue of the alleged pro-North-American/anti-Russian bias here, but it seems to be a possibility.

21. Elvis is still bitter he didn't get the olympic gold, and he's a bigger douchebag
than Plushenko...he was horrid to watch, stright line, jump, repeat for 4-1/2 minutes.

Her's a homophobic asshole, always pointing out that he was straight and hated that there were, or at least perceived to be, a lot of gay men in figure skating.

He can go fuck himself.

22. Yes, you ARE expressing your opinion.
Two articles do not a consensus make. And there are just as many (more, in fact) experts who agree with the outcome of the event.

Thing is, with an event that is judged, it's ALL about opinions rather than objective criteria, despite the rules set down.

Would Plushenko have even made the finals if not for his reputation? One has to wonder...

25. "...the alleged pro-North-American /anti-Russian bias..."
Like when they awarded the Russian pair gold and the Canadians silver in '02? The judges later recanted and elevated the Canadians to gold, left the Russians in the same spot, but inexplicably left the Japanese with bronze. A watched this event rooting for EP. We was magnificent in '06 and pretty impressive this time too. I saw him live once too in a tour that included Michelle Kwan.

Elvis Stojko is an amazing skater, of course, and the only one I have ever seen do a back-flip on skates. So what's next, a quintiple? How long can a skater remain in the air and still land safely? Triples are as difficult as they always were. Again, bravo for EP on his quad, but overall, EL was more polished and consistent.

Seeing is believing. Watch the routines, and I know you will as they were both very impressive, and see for yourself before relying on the opinions of others. Maybe you'll change your mind and maybe you won't.

...but guess what, it doesn't get you any points...not considered a required or optional element so you mgiht as well not do it.

26. Elvis Stojko is the love child of Margaret Hamilton and some unnamed Munchkin.
Edited on Tue Feb-23-10 04:57 PM by foxfeet
He is terrified of being perceived as gay. During his competitive years (now finally behind us, thank all the Gods) we were subjected to skate, skate, jump and little else beyond his inexplicable inclusion of his version of martial arts moves. He has never forgiven the sport for declining to reward his knuckle-dragging programs. Joeybee is right: Stojko is still bitter he never won Olympic gold and thinks it is everyone else's fault, certainly not his own. He is hardly a credible commentator.

And yes, he can go fuck himself.

Anyone who refers to his competition as "enemies" is a bit too intense. It's skating for fuck's sake, not a war!

Plushenko front loaded his routine with jumps. Yeah he make the Quad, but the overall performance goes to Lysachek.

Did all his fancy stuff at the beginning & then waved his arms through the rest of it. He would have won had he done ***THE QUAD*** in the last part of the program. Freakin' crybaby.

18. Douchebag did 5 triples in the first half of his program, 3 in the last...
...reverse for Evan...and he did them all perfectly.

As Scott Hamilton pointed out, Douchebag got a 9.8 for the quad, Evan did a triple lutz in the bonus time, which got him 9.4...pretty much erased Douchebag's effort for the quad.
