Have you heard of people driving 100's of miles to Chick-fil-a openings?
My mom was telling me about this yesterday. They had a Chick-fil-a open and there were people from Pennsylvania and Ohio - the opening was in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.

Apparently the rules are:
there is a designated area that you must stay in
if you leave the area you are out
the area opens up 24-72 hours before the opening (you have to stay for X number of days).

Hundreds of people camped overnight Wednesday in a Waynesboro parking lot to be the first inside the new Chick-fil-A restaurant when it opens. They braved the elements for the prospect of free food for a year.

At 6 a.m. Wednesday there were 238 people waiting in the parking lot, some from as far away as Florida and Missouri. They were lined up for the chance to be one of the 100 participants to win a Chick-fil-A meal - chicken sandwich, waffle potato fries and a drink - a week for the next year.

Since the First 100 promotion started seven years ago, Chick-fil-A has given away more than $11 million in free food, and gathered a cult following.

"We plan on keeping it going," said Mike Doran, who traveled from Maryland. "I mean, it's free food. We're all in college; why not take the free food."

"It's about 19 for me," said Melinda Crafton from Richmond. "It's like a tailgate party with 100 more that become your closest friends over the 24 hour period."

1. I guess I would...
if I thought my time was worth a 42% chance of making .42 cents an hour.

Chick-fil-a sucks though. Had it once in central Jersey and it was almost the worst meal I ever had (the worst was KFC).

Now Popeyes I would get in line for...

For some reason I have had no desire to go back, ever.

6. I thought you meant for job openings - not sure if I'm more or less reassured by the truth
However, if it makes people happy then whatever - I too have driven 100s of miles for reasons others might call stupid...

9. Only way I could see doing it
is if I was living at food bank levels at the moment. I am notoriously cheap regarding my diet - but I am fortunate enough that I am still able to eat real food.

13. This is ridiculous - the prize is worth about $300 - and still only the first 100 get it.
$6 meal * 52 weeks = $312 in shitty food.

minus gas this is probably the worst investment you could make

People are strange. I really don't get what the draw is at Chick-fil-A but some people are crazy for it.
