Boca Burger? Or Morningstar Farms? Other, or neither?

Going to CostCo to stock up on important things like cat litter and blank DVDs. I noticed the last time I was there that they also carry Boca Burger and Morningstar Farms products...

Anyone have an opinion on which one is better? Either for taste reasons, or for company profile?

Thanks

1. Boca. Costco has the large restaurant size Boca burgers, too.
My Costco only has the Morningstar sausage patties, not the burgers, but usually the Boca Burgers are better, especially for alliteration.

The only Morningstar Burger I didn't stop liking quickly was a "prime rib" or something like that. It was decent, but it tasted artificial. I mean, yeah, it's a veggie burger so it's not real meat or real vegetable or real tofu, so in that way they all taste artificial, but Boca Burgers still taste like the flavor and texture come from a food product made to somewhat function the way a meat burger functions on a sandwhich, whereas the Morningstar Burgers tastes like someone just tried too hard to imitate the feel of meat and then bury any natural flavor under a lot of spices and flavorings. That's why I get tired of them so quickly.

Sometimes Costco carried Gardenburgers, which are also good, but more of a grain and random veggie flavor than a burger flavor, which means it doesn't work with the normal flavorings you put on a burger. You can make your own sandwhich if you like them, of course.

And sometimes Costco carries Dr. Praeger's California Veggie Burgers. These make terrible "hamburgers" because they are too squishy and have the wrong flavor, but I bought a pack from Costco once and experimented, since I just had them in my freezer for so long. I found that they taste great with hummus or avacado and various fixings. I buy them now just to make them that way.

That's my rundown. :)

2. thanks, jobycom!

Appreciate it! I'm not really looking for meat flavor, I'm just looking for something tasty to slap between a toasted english muffin that I can top with a few slices of tomato...

3. In that case try the Dr. Praeger's if they have them.
They are healthier and really good if you like hummus or avocado, and I'm sure they work with other things. The secret is to not want them to be a burger, and to put something else with a strong flavor that will match them and taste natural still. I don't like them with cheese (or cheese sub) or with just lettuce-tomato-onion-mayo, but they are good once you get them the way you like them.

I can get non-vegetarians to eat the Boca Burgers more easily, so I always have them around, but they don't taste as fresh as the Praegers.

4. I can't stand Boca, and MorningStar has some good ones, but Garden Burger rules!
The Garden Burger portobello flavor is really awesome. In general, though, MorningStar has the best products in terms of flavor and consistency. Boca is just plain too dry and they try too hard to make it taste like a beef patty.

For the record, I've been a vegetarian for 20 years.

6. This is the nice thing about having choices! Some people like Boca, others Morningstar Farms
Personally, I like having a variety. The Boca Burgers that Costco sells are the larger ones, and I'm happy for that since they are very satisfying and "bun-filling". My favorite though is Morningstar Farm Prime Grillers, I always make sure I have a box in the freezer, should the mood strike.

This is coming from somebody who isn't vegetarian or vegan, just somebody who isn't closed minded about all different kinds of food.

8. I prefer Boca, myself.

Can't stand Gardenburgers, tastes nothing like a "hamburger". Morningstar is OK, but Boca has superior taste/texrure.

On edit: I do adore Morningstar Black Bean burgers -- fantasic with hickory BBQ sauce, pickes, lettuce, and a slab of cheddar (if you do cheese).

10. I am throwing this out there....
(it's not costco so I know I am not answering your question....) - however, Trader Joes has a Masala Burger that is out of this world - if you like Indian food you should try it.

I'll stop butting in now. :-)

12. Neither.
Amy's California Burgers are scrumptious and I'm a meat eater most of the time. We did all the rest of them, but this one really is the best tasting, is all organic, and has no GM soy like Morningstar Farms.

Not sure who carries them where you live. They make a few varieties of burgers, too, but we like the California burger best.

Possibly closer into DC, though; I may need to go to Trader Joe's before too long ... I wonder if Whole Foods (Whole Paycheck) carries them? I'll check it out.

32. I agree that homemade is always best.
But given the question, I thought Amy's was the better answer. Morningstar Farms has GM soy in all of their products unless you choose their organic line. We like their chick'n nuggets but don't eat them often for that reason. I hate to eat them at all but it's good to have them in the freezer when time is short and I can't fix dinner.

17. hey old mark, how are you doing?
How's your wife these days?

I can't do meat. Can't. My consience haunts me; the way this country's meat producers treat their animals, the awful conditions they live in, and the awful slaughterhouses make it impossible for me to consider. Not that I wouldn't love filet mignon now and then. I don't oppose meat in theory, but the practice of it here = I can't do it. No creature should have to have a horrible life just so I can have a burger.

24. thanks -- I'll check it out.
I think there is such a farm close to where I live - a "humane, organic farm". Meat used to be a luxury, or a fraction of a meal, not the entire point of it. I hate to get on my soapbox, but Americans really need to rethink the way we eat, and I wish we hadn't exported the idea of quick-meals, fast food, etc. around the globe.

31. Baby Portobella mushrooms slices in olive oil, 2 or 3 eggs with a
spoonfull of red wine ,a scallion and a slice of cream cheese on top ---my favorite omelet....

Yes, they are MEATY!!!

FWIW, my cardiologist put me on a high protein no carb diet in February...my glucose is now normal, I am down nearly 20 pounds, and still losing and I feel GREAT...I cannot process carbs.

FB, my wife is now fine - the whole thing was a potassium deficiency...she has had a lot of surgery for Crohn's disease and does not get enough potassium. She has been taking a daily supplement and has had no problems since.
Thanks!

For burgers, I'd say Boca. I've got to be in the mood for any of these products. Sometimes they taste great. Sometimes they taste like the box they came in.

20. Neither, to be honest. Make your own patties from one of hundreds of vegan recipes.
The isolated soy protein found in these fake meat products is very carcinogenic:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHYFOJBU434

Furthermore, they have a high likelihood of containing hexane:

http://www.naturalnews.com/026303_soy_protein_hexane.html

A Google search for "soy food hexane" shows that this has also been reported by CBS and other mainstream and health-specific media sources.

Homemade patties made from various grains, beans and vegetables may take a few more minutes, but they're far superior and more healthy. :)

'cuz it would be important to make sure the various grains, beans, vegetables, etc. were not GM stock, either.

We have f*cked up our food royally in this country.

Thank you very much for the links, though. I'll review and bookmark them!
