Big Brother
Is anyone watching this season? What are your thoughts so far?

I haven't found this season that compelling. There's nobody I really love or hate. Britney is probably my favorite. She's pretty funny, especially when she put on Rachel's hair extensions. I find Matt annoying. He thinks he's a genius but he's not. Rachel is really annoying but at least she's playing well so far. The "Brigade" is lame. The only thing they've done right is keep their alliance a secret.

1. There's been some decent intrigue

The big thing is the Brigade keeping their alliance a secret. I can't imagine how four guys can get together to plot and plan in a small house and not arouse some notice. Rachel and Brendan are an amazingly annoying, yet powerful couple. It will be interesting to see how they fare when one of them isn't head of household.

I thought the last eviction of Kristen might have been a big turning point. Kristen laid out a very plausible scenario and terrific argument for not being evicted, but because the Brigade has kept their existence secret, nobody (except Kathy) wanted to stick their neck out for her. I was a bit surprised she perceived that so clearly during her exit interview with Julie Chen. I hadn't thought of her as being a real strategic player.

Someone else who has revealed a strategic side has been Britney. I thought she'd fall apart when her ally Monet was evicted, but she rallied, and has become a rather formidable presence. I haven't figured out why Kathy is still in the house, except maybe that she's perceived as such a nothingburger she floats through without arousing any rancor.

The Brigade looks poised to run the table. I see Matt going all the way, because although he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, he's a lot brighter than anyone else in his alliance.

2. The four guys don't really plot much
That's the thing...there's not much strategic planning going on. The only thing that's made them successful is that they've kept their alliance a secret. I hope they don't "run the table." I don't really like any of them.

Kristen did have a good case for staying. The problem was with the Brigade voting for Hayden, it meant she needed Brendan's vote. Kristen unfortunately wasn't playing smart by being nasty to the HoH. Rachel did try to make nice but Kristen basically told her to fuck off...not a great move. Brendan would've never voted against what Rachel wanted and Rachel wanted Kristen gone.

I think Matt will be a target since he's the only one of the four guys to win anything. I think it will probably be Enzo or Lane that wins. Britney could win too. The 4 guys will have to turn on each other eventually and that could be her opening.

3. I think it will come down to Lane or Matt
Enzo and Hayden don't really seem to have much going on upstairs. Matt is indeed pretty full of himself, but if the Brigade survives intact one more week, they'll control the majority of votes in the house, and I don't see the rest of the house coalescing to oppose them. The Brigade might lose someone, but I think that will be more by accident than design, with an HOH unwittingly nominating two Brigade members, and the Veto not being able to save them.

Kristen definitely sealed her own fate by alienating Rachel. Britney managed to overcome Rachel's animosity, but that required her to slurp a lot of Rachel's bullshit. Not many players are willing to do that with someone they can't stand. Britney could be a dark horse.

4. Sunday's developments
I knew from a friend that Matt had won HOH, and figured he'd nominate Rachel and Brendan for eviction. Made for a pretty dull episode, and unless Rachel wins the veto, this will be a pretty dull week watching her whine and pule about being treated the way she's treated everyone else. Even her little tiff with Ragan was amazing. Ragan seems like a very inoffensive person, wouldn't say "shit" if he had a mouth full of it, and even he came into range of the Rachel howitzer. I guess Brendan deserves some points for sticking up for Rachel even when he didn't have a clue as to the situation, but holy smokes! If people could come back from the dead, they'd vote to evict Rachel. I've been impressed with their competitive abilities, but Rachel and Brendan have no social skills whatsoever.

9. It was obvious...

who Matt would nominate. He likes to play it safe. He either nominates people who don't have a lot of support in the house (Andrew and Kathy) or obvious choices (Rachel and Bendon).

I find Ragan pretty annoying. He's also been pretty nasty toward Rachel. He, and the rest of the house, have spent the last week doing nothing but trashing Rachel/Brendon.

Rachel will go home if she doesn't win the veto. She's a much stronger player. I hope something changes next week and people start going after the Brigade. If the 4 guys just pick off Britney or Ragan next, the show will get pretty boring.

5. Kind of boring season
The Rachel and Brendon vs the house bit got old quick. the problem is, I don;t care who wins between the two. Rachel is annoying and Brendon is not a mental player. I think Matt is the best player in the house and I suspect he will be the first to turn on the brigade group. But that group will make it to the final 6 before they start to turn I think.

Least favorite right now is Kathy. Favorite is Regan.

8. Yes, it is
Edited on Mon Aug-09-10 06:07 PM by blue_onyx
I find Brendan's emotional whining far more annoying than Rachel. I don't know if you follow the live feeds at all but the Rachel/Brendan bashing is out of control. The rest of the house does nothing but trash them...particularly Britney and Ragan. I'm finding the constant belittling of Rachel/Brendan more annoying than them.

Ragan is one of my least favorite people. He has annoyed me since the first week. I'm actually starting to like Kathy...mainly because she's the least annoying.

6. My thoughts on big brother really havn't changed that much.
When someone asked you what you are willing to do, don't go dark side.

When someone presents your worst fear, overcome it.

And the dinner for nonpeople that are hopeless is a state of mind.

Note George Orwell failed room 101, so I don't take his advice on such things.

And Hana never betrayed me or anyone else in my experiences.

Think about the term 'Big Brother' I would guess many miss part of the indicator in that very term. Big Brother has parents. There are levels above things presented like 'big brother' even in how that story is presented by George Orwell.

There are many flaws in that story also.
