It always surprises me when people think that memes are some kind of newfangled internet thing. I first learned of the the word and concept when I was a kid in the 80s, and it made perfect sense to me then.

I first learned about memes while reading Analog Science Fiction magazine. Made perfect sense to me.

The meme that really jumped out at me was Conspiracy Theories. I thought those really are memes, a better example couldn't be found.
